*.att extension??

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

The site I always use for stuff like that, is FILExt - The File Extension Source. It gives you information on the files, tools to open the files and links to certain companies.

Hope it helps

The *.att comes up as ( .ATT AT&T Group 4 Bitmap (fax) ) from this page - http://www.bowers.cc/extensions2.htm as well as this on - http://www.seniormag.com/compcorner/def ... lista3.htm
I couldn't find any others.

kimk it's a fake attachment, the worm randomly generates file extensions for the attachments, there isn't actually anything in it but the virus payload.. which you just delivered. Now you'll be e-mailing everyone in your address book (without even knowing)

Post Sat Jan 31, 2004 5:01 am

so how does one stop this? delete all the contacts in my address book? which address book are you referring to? the hotmail one? its not even on my computer! does it use the e-mail it was sent to or somthing ?

EDIT: people, watch for that file coming from me will ya. especially taw. i'm sure i've got him in my address book.

thanks.

yes it did, i had 2 off you last night and 4 this morning, but it never got past my defence lines and was crushed by Tawakalnian anti-virus forces!

you need to update whatever AV you're using and run a FULL virus scan on ALL files, not just the defaults, and have your heuristics scanner set to medium or max, or programs, for the legth of the scan. Hotmail is handling this worm quite well and those that are getting through are being stripped of their attachments anyway, as afr as I know.

Post Sun Feb 01, 2004 1:05 am

well taw, you do know i'm running on an unstable harddrive right now.. one that will never let the virus scan finish. so what can i do then?

Post Sun Feb 01, 2004 1:50 am

i can't remember if it's your primary master or one of the others thats chogging badly. it's generally more important to avscan the drive with the o/s on and wherever the destination for downloads is.

but you really need to get that drive sorted out, i take it you haven't managed to run scandisk or disk doctor on it yet from DOS as a start?

my C drive is F'ed too bad to do anything, i lost the entire windows ME folder on the C drive, that includes everything that were on the desktop. (is there any other way to access stuff that were on the desktop?)

and for D drive, its just that the virus scan, and any other scan done on it will NEVER end. just repeats scanning a few folders.

Format drive and re-install

it is looking like repartition and reformat time for Kimk. I have a spare 40gb ATA-133 kicking around, I think I'll post it to him in Korea, it's too painful to keep watching him suffer.

sorry Kimk the desktop folder is part of Windows, if you've lost Windows you'll lose all its directories. if the stuff was shortcuts then the targets should be ok, I keep telling people not to save to the desktop but no-one ever listens.

@Kimk there is one other option to try before you format. If you have it, run scandisk on the the disk itself scanning the surface. It can identify bad sectors and isolate them so the anitvirus will run fully. Our older work computer had 2 bad sectors and once we got them marked, the backing up, writing and other functions worked correctly.
