Weaponry
This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Wolfy - Yes, the battering ram is useful, however unless you have some arrow fodder and/or have taken protective measures, they can be a huge waste of man- power. I've always been a fan of the magonel! You know, those MASSIVE catapults. You can knock down almost any wall with a few one ton rocks!
Arania - As for a "diamond-bladed dagger", I'd prefer on with a monofilament edge! It could cut through ANYTHING, and with no effort! Better than a lightsaber by far!
Comont - True, the topic is not that obscure, but I wasn't sure if many other people knew about them. I was wrong thankfully! Platemail is one of the best protective measures that you could use, however it is incredibly difficult to move around in when not horsed, so it is a little impractical.
Loc - Netch leather? Been playing too much MWind, eh?
Taw - I knew we'd hear from you! Try another weapon; one about 800 years earlier!
The claymore is a great weapon, however I also like the flamberge! It is similar to the "serrated blades" that Comont referred to, in that it has an ordinary blade until shorty before the forte, and then becomes serrated. It is very intimidating.
As for the crossbow, they are very useful, but as they cannot fire rapidly. Therefore, they are not as useful in the thick of battle as a good six-foot longbow. Longbows can be more powerful that crossbows, but only if they are drawn by a really strong person with a bow that has very stiff limbs. As for ballistae, I wish we had seen more of them in LOTR!
A final word on Katanas; they are fantastic swords, as is the Wazikashi and the Ninja-to (they are practically identical, with the main difference being length), however the lack of a proper point makes it a purely slashing weapon, which is not always practical; especially when trying to stab someone wearing platemail!
Phew! Not that that's done, two questions;
1) Are their any good sites so that I can embed some pictures of Flamberges, etc?
2) What do you think of the pike? Quite useful against cavalry in my opinion.

If I remember my history , there were a few battles between King Charles and Oliver Cromwell that had Pike Men. It was good against calvery but when the battle went in the woods or hand to hand they had to drop them in favor of swords.
Cromwell won one of his greatest victories against overwhelming odds at Dunbar on September 3, 1650; exactly a year later he defeated the combined forces of the Scots and Charles II at Worcester.

European medieval weaponry? I'd go for the longbow, those of you who know about the Battle of Agincourt will know why
However my favourites come from medieval Japan, they're not very effective battle weaponry, but they're a joy to use. They'd be the Jo staff and the Nunchaku. The Jo staff is basically a 4 foot long staff, it's shorter than the Bo staff and handles so much faster and with more manoeuvrability. The nunchaku are just fun, although not strictly medieval IIRC. They were developed in Okinawa after the Japanese invaded and decreed that none of the locals could posess weapons, so they modified farm tools for the job. Supposedly the nunchaku was originally a rice flail or a horse bit.

Taw - Ah yes, the gladius. A nice little sword and a very well-made weapon. A bit too short for me though.
I'm actually starting a collection of medieval weapons and armour. I currently have only one sword sadly, as I am waiting upon full-time employment in order to fund my hobby. Still, I've been looking around, and I've seen some nice ones. The only problem is collecting authentic weapons, and not showy ones such as "Conan's Sword", etc. They are really gaudy. Has anyone seen them?
