What about the Steyr Aug (sp?) in used by the Aus. Military? They're nice guns. Not much kickback as I understand it.

nvere used those Steyrs and don't know much about them really. I'm told they are rather good, very well made, highly advanced and durable, waterproof apparently (not sure how that works but never mind) Austrian aren't they? the Bullpup design means its lighter and smaller than many SMGs but the barrel is long enough to act like a rifle. However i personally dislike the Bullpup design although it's very preactical and radically improves the handling and peformance of this style of weapon from the traditional centrally located magazine SMGs and asault rifles. it's one fo the few good things about the SA-80 as described earlier. Apparently the Cambridgeshire Constabulary use Steyr AUG SRs, which is novel as most UK Police forces use MP5As which is pretty much the standard police SMG around the world.

really says something that, doesn't it? i remember hearing something about the trials, but i didn't know that it had actually all been settled. M16 and its derivatives are good guns but the design is over 40 years old now. Still it's beeter than the SA80! mind you an air pistols better than the SA80 (at least they work)

I don't know about carbines. I am unsure of their accuracy. What about P90's? Nice rate of fire, although lower caliber rounds. Presumably though, they have a lot of kickback and thus lack accuracy. Does any country use P90's as standard equipment by the way?

"Released in the early 1990's the P90 is a space aged bullpup rifle designed entirely for the military market. NATO aproached various small arms manufacturers with the task of designing a weapon suitable for the 2/3rds of Military Personel that arent trained to carry small arms - office staff, vehicle crews caterers etc. and a suitably versatile weapon for special forces applications. NATO were also concerned about the apparent improvement in body armour that was reducing the effectiveness of the then standard 9mm SMG Bullet - hence the superior penatrative power of the 5.7mm P90 round which is capable of penatrating cars and body armour (47 layers of Kevlar).
The P90 is being adopted by more and more law enforcement and military organisations day by day attracted to the guns compact size and high penatrative power. The P90 is comepletly ambidextrous with the empty shell casings being ejected from the bottom of the weapon."
