This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Furthering my education... 2nd edition

In my random musings while eating a rather large BBQ sandwich I began to think about Austrailia. It actualy started whe my G-paw mentioned that corn must not be in season (winter up here u kno... even if it is 80 degrees today). So, why not grow corn in the southern hemisphere? And since nobody likes to eat stuff from S. America grow it in Austrailia!

That thought led to the folowing question... what, besides touerism (sp?) are Austrailia's major industries? Exports?

Oh ya... Congrats to ff!

Thanks for thinking about our country!

Industries: mining, industrial and transportation equipment, food processing, chemicals, steel

Exports: coal, gold, meat, wool, alumina, iron ore, wheat, machinery and transport equipment

Actually, Kangaroo is exported to some countries, as is crocodile. I've never had them, however we Australians can pick up Kangaroo meat (and salami) quite cheaply. One of the perks of being in a country that possesses large amounts of relatively harmless wildlife . Actually, there was a lot of controversy about soldiers shooting Kangaroos that were too close to their army base here in Victoria. Apparently, there were too many of them, and they were getting through the fences, etc. Actually, it is apparently quite easy to get a shooting license to kill Kangaroos in certain areas in order to combat over-population. Strange way to treat one of our national animals, eh?

I think the other Aussies have it covered, livestock, meat and weat are probably our most renowned exports. Unfortunately there isn't a wide range of farming land within Australia, most farms are situated in the coastal regions or at least within a 500 km radius of the coast or a major river artery.

Unfortuantely most of Australia is inhospitable due to the lack of rain.
To give you some idea, we only have a population of approx. 18 million in a land mass the size of the USA. At the moment the counrties water supply is under a heavy strain whereby the govt. has enforced water restrictions on most states. This generally means you can only water your garden within designated times, wash your car with a spray gun etc.

Oh by the way, kangaroo tates kinda like rabbit, except more gamey, bloody awful actually. Crocodile is sensational stuff though, it's kinda like a mix between calamari and chicken, really sweet meat.

the pop hit 20 million recently.

Mustang is right, just take Yemen (pop around 20 mil) but stretch it out into a circle the shape of Australias coast. Thats the populated areas. Then slam a big desert in the middle, with only a few hermits per hundred hectare. Then, slap a big rock in the center, and you got Australia.

who on earth are you dribbling about, Arch? Who's Libbie Kennedy when she's at home?

I've never been to Oz, I'd really like to go. I almost did once, I met this Oz girl years ago who was studying over here, got off with her (she 100% fit, Oz girls are tops) she wanted me to go back to Parramatta? (I think that was it) which is near Sydney i think. But I didn't. Shame really.

@ Taw,

Until I got to the part about Sydney, I thought you were on crack and talking about women from the Land of Oz. Arn't austrilians Auzies or Bruce?

@Taw: Quite possibly the finest show ever!!!

Essential Student viewing, there was a point (before we all had to live outside of home and therefore couldnt afford 3 square meals, let alone a TV) when top conversation at the Pub was the events of the evenings visit to Ramsay Street.

you guys forgot Australia`s most famous export Rolph Harris
btw do you guys want him back ....... PLEASE!

@Arch, I've never seen a single episode of Neighbours, but thx for resolving that question for me. All my soap knowledge is gleaned from second and third hand sources (papers, hearing people talk about it etc)

@RILMS, Australia is often referred to as "Oz" or did you think I was talking 'bout the Emerald City

@steel, unfair Geoff, Rolf's "Stairway" is hilarious. I can do without "Animal Hospital" though, unless they set it underwater in a nuclear fusion submarine populated only by squirrels.

@Steel: ive seen Rolf live at Glastonbury. The whole Kitch feeling to it made it an absolutely kick ass performance. He knew that the audience wasnt taking it seriously and i dont think he was either. Just a really fun time.
