Blackadder

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Blackadder

This is the sixth in my series of threads regarding television shows. Does anyone enjoy watching Blackadder? It has to be one of the best examples of good British comedy (there's bad British comedy??? ). You can't go past those great one liners, however the show did turn to the coarser side of humour on some occasions. What do you think?

By the way, has anyone seen "The Fast Show"? It was a British sketch comedy series, and was quite amusing.

both are sheer brilliance and staples of my tv nostalgia.

Blackadder 1 was the most original, but was a bit pointless at times.
Blackadder 2 was far superior
Blackadder 3 was just as good and occcasionally excelled comic heights "was that a squirrel? where? BANG! I hate them.."
Blackadder Goes Forth was the cleverest, the most acid, and the funniest, as well as being the most poignant and telling. "I love you, Darling.."
Blackadder's Christmas Carol was ok.
Blackadder: Back & Forth was rather tired, although it had it's moments.

The Fast Show was incredible. It was consistently funnier every time. I don't have a favourite, all the characters and sketches were bang-on and I use many of the catchphrases in everyday speech now! I couldn't be without "You smell nice, darling! Yes, it's gin! - I'm not pissed, you know.." "Buono Estente, buono estente!"

wonderful.

I agree Taw, the second series was very good. It's very hard to pick "the best" series though, so I won't even try. As for the Fast Show, you've got to love it. I wish they were still making it. Still, here's a quote for ya;

One day we were playing golf and we were on the 18th green, when a white rabbit popped out of the hole and wished us all a good morrow. Which was nice.

According to IMDB there is a seventh Blackadder

Blackadder: The Cavalier Years

I don't really know what its about and have never seen it but according to IMDB its about Oliver Cromwell and stuff, Would love to see it though.

As for the rest: series 4&2, (of which series 4 is in my mind is the absolute top,) are in my minds the best though the rest of it is far above good

Crowell? Mmmm, the English revolution of the 1640's. That would be interesting. I was told once that there was supposed to be another series in which Blackadder was the manager of a band in the '70's. Apparently, they never made it. Damn.

there was never any Cavalier Years although that would have been wonderful shame.

On the same theme, does anyone remember Chelmsford 1-2-3? the Roman occupation of Chelmsford, Essex? Britain was the *rse end of the Roman Empire and the natives were lazy thieving gits and the Romans were conniving but stupid fops. And how the Romans invented the by-pass, but p*ssed off Dr. Who.

i was never a fan of Blackadder, but picking up on the Fast Show, that show was my inspiration for comedy for secondary school. It was the bread and butter of my week. The Monty Python of my generation, the Fast Show was the funniest sketch so, easily, in the last 10 years

I love most Britcoms, but I hated Black Adder. Rowan Atkinson is the least funny Brit as is Jerry Lewis is the least funny American.

That's interesting SS. You are the first person I have met that has disliked Blackadder (of those who had actually heard of it). What exactly do you dislike about it? The comedy? Rowan Atkinson? The show's premise?

Rowan Atkinson is rather less funny away from Blackadder, and I'm afraid his Mr. Bean rubbish just isn't funny at all, to me. In fact it's just stupid. The comparison with Jerry lewis is a good one, because he's tiresome too. Atkinson was supposed to be brilliant in *Four Weddings and a Funeral, and he wasn't. That film was like having my ears gouged out with a sharpened teaspoon, and he was it's low point.

Blackadder will remain a work of comic genius and rightly so, but everything else he's done? forget it.

*I hate Four Weddings, it so bl**dy nice, and everyone's so nice, and women think it's nice, and it's got that dreadful song that morons like because its nice. And then they went and did it all again with Love Actually. Hankies and vomit all round!

And thank you for your intelligent post freighter fighter.

I really don't have a clue which series is what but I enjoyed Blackadder "In the Army" so to speak. The Xmas Carol was funny, but my favourite character isn't Blackadder. Give me Baldrick! I love his character

you love it up the rear, admiral

BWAA HAHAHAH!

anyway, Blackader: No, like i said, i never did like it really. Just didnt find it terribly amusing. In fact i think alot of Untie Beeb's home made sitcoms are rather dire. I prefer the stuff they actually gave comedians money to go out and make on their own, not the stuff they made themselves. The *ahem* classic shows of yesteryear i think are all poo. As for recent comedy, a certain mr Curtis who seems to be the Beeb's butt buddie (sorry Loc) can only seem to churn out steaming piles of excrememnt. Its the newly made items that are from the "Channel 4 Generation" (a term i JUST coined, but basically is the MTV generation but with Channel 4 as a source of inspiration) that i think are the real money winners. Shows like "The Fast Show", "The Office", "The League of Gentlemen", "Big Train", "The Day Today", "Alan Patridge" and "The Friday Night Armistice", where they just get actual tallent, sign them, then give them money to do whatever they want. Its alot better i think, and its alot more original. BBC's own made shows, in the studio, looking crap, are always formulaic rubbish that relies on comedy values from 20/30 years ago. Your mum & dad would love it but i pine for something fresh.

I saw Black Adder once or twice along time ago...I thought it was pretty good, but we don't get it here anymore. We'll just have to settle for other britcoms.
