Sky Captain!!!

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Sky Captain!!!

Trailer (QT)

This film looks awesome. I have not even heard about it until a few minutes ago but i can honestly say i cant wait to see it. The whole art (whatever its called) of the 30's, the way they envisioned the future. Its such a cool architecture, let alone the whole "Flash-Gordon-Esque" world that this movie's gonna be set it. I think it could be a sleeper hit, if the hollywood hype machine doesnt get to it first.

that looks fantastuc, Arch. thx for posting it. I love all that 30s/40s style stuff, Lang's Metropolis, original Flash Gordon/Buck Rogers, Rocketeer etc

Looks pretty good. But am I the only one who noticed that the music they had was from Stargate: SG1?

Nifty! Giant robots and such, plus a really nifty WW2 aircraft. Anybody see what kind? (My guess is P40)

@Arcon, wow for such a huge movie that sure snuck up on us. I'd go see it!

They borrow music all the time for trailers, it has no bearing on the movie itself. It might tell you who is doing the music for the film though. They often just take samples of the Composers earlier works to fit into scenes and trailers until he can finish the scoring.

For instance, though I don't remember who the composer is, the trailer for the original MIB took music from Demolition Man. But when the film came out, it had its own scoring by then.

Anyone else played Crimson Skies? If so are you getting a sense of deja vu too?
Crimson Skies had an alternative timeline ie a mixture of 30s America and stylish futuristic aircraft. Airships were all over the place.
Plus the scene where the plane barnstorms a hangar with an airship in it or the scenes with the aircraft dogfighting among manhattan skyscrapers appear to be lifted straight out of the game.
Still, if the trailer is anything to go by, it looks pretty darn fine.

@Recuscant, well they're both borrowing from the same era of futuristic thought. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen also borrowed from the origins of future just prior to all the air capabilities.

These movies, while cool (not so much the League) are stereotypical views of how the future was perceived back in the early parts of the 20th century.

yeh. what happened to that future? according to every visionary of the first half of the century, we'd all be living in a utopian Metropolis by now. Instead we live in overpriced stinkholes (well I do)

aww poor Taw, did your local Morrisons just close down?

Ya, I was also thinking of Crimson Skys

Nice trailer, nice movie, but why did they have to bring Angelina Jolie into this? I don't think Botox was present in the 30's.

Edit: Damn spelling.

@Nickless, I didn't think she used Botox, but I don't particularly like her and it wouldn't surprise me. The odd thing to me is having her and Gwyneth Paltrow in the same film.

Another film this movie borrows some imagery from, I just recalled, appears to be Fritz Lang's Metropolis.

@Taw, oh yeah ... problem is I don't reread every thread I am posting a second time too, espcially since there are soooo many damn threads to keep track of right now. Seems like everyone, including myself, is starting a new thread this week.
