Vegastrike!!! 100% Free Freelancer type game!!!!!

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

OK. Vegan experience so far.

Much like the vegetarian diet, I am unable to fathom how it works. At this point, I am forced to check out the documentation to see if I can make heads or tails of it.

The game seems to permit play without a joystick.... which I would prefer as I uninstalled mine a while back. But game does not want to recognize my mouse.

I must say the guys who created this game are really 'creative' indeed

I found the insystem jump (target something with the T key and then press A ) to be very usfull, but I haven't been able to dogfight or jump to another system.
The game seems very basic and isn't completed into very much detail. But hey, It's only 164MB and it's free, so what do you expect.
I used arrows for steering, and it kinda works alright. But for the rest it's kinda crappy imho. Not realy a game for me.

Btw, Helpkey is shift+M .
Dunno why shift because M on itsself does nothing, but who cares. The help is extremely basic, but it gets you moving.

Quick overveiw of keymapping:

T = Target . Kinda obvious, but it's used for targeting everyting. Planets, bases, jumpholethingies and ships, wether they are friend or foe.

D = Docking . You need to be inside the white squares that apear near a base/planet to be able to use it, although being inside a 2D object in a 3 universe is kinda dificult, just type D a few times when manouvering, and you'll notice when you're close enough

A = Insystem Jump . Target an object with T and press A . You jump right in front of it.

A = Increade speed (not 100% sure)

Z = Decrease speed (Also not 100% sure)

\ = Increase speed to max.

Backspace = Full stop

Tab = Thruster , although I haven't noticed any increase in speed when you're already at full speed.

Space = Fire guns

Enter = Fire missiles.

To exit the game press esc and then Q . Press Esc instead of Q to abort exit.

Thats all I figured out in about one hour of gameplay. It doesn't realy hold my interrest.

@Nick,

Got some of that but yours is more complete. Thnx. Found out that I've been jumping into space prematurely so this time I visited the bar and accepted a mission and immediately failed it, got in a tangle with some luddites who feel that it's ok to shoot at me but not ok for me to retaliate.

Wierd game so far. The technological beauty of FL is a very stark contrast to this game so far.

I really envy those of you who are able to pick up on how to play these game so quickly. I'm sort of stumbing about here. I think FL spoiled me. This game is not quite as intuitive.

Umm....I'd download it, but it says I need to give them money.

So none of you would recommend it?

Damn shame if that is the case. Like I said, I kept a slight watch over the progress of the development over the last year or two. Haven't tried it myself yet. Will be getting new computer soon in January than I'llhave a go at all the games I've been wanting to play.

@SnS

Don't take it from me. I am notoriously slow at getting the hang of any game's play.
But if you are looking for a relative comparison between FL and Vega, Vega is not in the same league from the standpoint of polish and execution but... it's for free.

Also, if you've gotten used to the ease of flying in FL, it's time to get back to basics for Vega.

I don't understand gravedigging....I mean do people actually have nothing else to do other than go through threads years old?

Or do they do it on purpose?

Post Tue Jan 03, 2006 12:12 pm

No kiddin' Wolfy, miss those guys. And I'll agree, no point in digging up, old long dead threads.

Post Tue Jan 03, 2006 12:28 pm

The guy probably did a search on the game.
Afterall...usually when people ask a question everybody says and asks why he didn't search. This guy did search and in finding a thread he made a relevant post.

That is unlike the rest of you who posted after him. If anyone has an answer for him, please provide it.
If you do not have something to say relevant to the thread, please do not post.

Thank you.
