Been using the beta of winamp 5 for a few months. Good enough to replace both 2.x and 3.x.

I really didn't get along with winamp, everything too small and poxy....I'm an itunes man myself. Whats so good about the new version then? Anything new? Or is it same ole, same ole, with new packaging?

I liked Winamp 2, I hated Winamp 3 so I switched to WMP. Now I don't care about Winamp anymore.
I'll give Winamp 5 a try perhaps someday.

I have winamp for my PC, but I just use WMP on my laptop. Not really sure what 5 will do for the program.

What happened to 4? did they decide that they didn't want to waste time and worked skipped it?

Winamp 5 is Winamp 2 + Winamp 3. Sort of some dumb clever joke. 5 = 2 + 3

Winamp 5 is like Winamp 3 but not based on their slow and bloated Wasabi code, i think.

if they do shoutcast for W5 then i might be tempted to swap

Does Winamp now have a better music databasing system? When I first had it as 1.x to 2.x, I didn't like how it kept track of music files. I now use MusicMatch and love it's file system. For keeping track of 2500 songs I need a great database.

what? winamp 2 had a freaking ACE system. one that iTunes promptly stole (good for them) so it has the same library system as W2 & 3, not the tiered system of MM (i still use MM but only for encoding)

wolfy, you exist to be flamed. it is your destiny, you know it to be true

@Arcon, then explain how Winamp's file system is "ace" because so far I like the tiered system the best and I don't remember Winamps well enough. I just remember not liking it at the time.

RealJukebox was good for random play on all the files in the library, but having to click into each subcategory was annoying. And if I recall, RealOne was still like that. But I quickly uninstalled that as I refused to accept all the damn cookies it kept sending my way. However a friend of mine said he preferred RealOne after he got used to it. Does anybody else use it?

WMP won't extract music as MP3's, so I use SoundStream (by Roxio) to extract the music, and WinAmp 2.78 to play it. I hate the interface on WMP, the only good thing is the visualizations, but on WinAmp 2.78 I've found an AVS, which basically is the Visualizations, with an option to write your own coding for the visualizations!
