Look at it this way Wolfy

It's really impossible to compare the Germanic political system to the American one as your Political leader and your Head of State are encompassed in the role of the President. In Germany think of the President split in two halves, one half being the Chancellor who sees to the running of the country and the other half as the President who has little real power within the Government but acts as the public face of the Government and I believe has limited veto power (Im not 100% on that)

However if you REALLY need a direct comparison this is the best I can come up with,

President.........Chancellor
First Lady.........President
Vice President....Vice Chancellor

Are there any Germans on the forums that could give a more accurate explination? I'm really not all that great with Governments of the world.

Thank you Indy! All this kamakazi talk was beginning to worry me, but if you look at the world's history you can see how Ghengis Khan's mongel hordes are directly or indirectly responsible for...

-the end of the Roman empire,
-gothic influence in and after the middle ages,
-the middle east situation today,
-the way many countries there are underdeveloped compared to the rest of the world,
-and the long glorious history of China.

Not bad for some old horde of barbarians huh?

@ Wolfie,

You know. You really need to try looking things up just a little harder.

Anyhoooo.

There is a Chancellor of today's Germany (Kanzler). He's the #1 political guy. AND, there is a designated Vice Chancellor of Germany for the purposes of succession (Vizekanzler). The point is that the Vice Chancellor is not a specifically constituted office. It is a responsibility conferred upon one of the Chancellor's Cabinet ministers. Usually, but not always, the Foreign Minister. So, depending upon the regime in power, the Vice Chancellor more likely also is the Foreign Minister. In the event of the untimely death of the German Chancellor, the Foreign Minister, usually, also holds the title of Vizekanzler and will take on the reponsibilities of Kanzler for some set period of time.

PS: In FL, the Chancellor's name is Nieman. How about Neumann for the VC?

I thought the Chancellor (Kanzler) was the equivalent of our Prime Minister, and that there was a President as Head of State in Deutschland, the BundesPrasident?

remember Hitler was elected Chancellor and only became Fuhrer after President von Hindenburg died, and he could assume the role of Head of State.

and in Imperial times there was the Chancellor, e.g. von Bismarck, known as the Iron Chancellor and the Kaiser (Emperor)

btw hiya Wolfy! looking forward to Christmas, despite everything?

@Taw.

Bundesprasident. Yeah. Head of State. More analogous to the Queen than the French President.

Someone else mentioned that way up top.
But the political doers are the Kanzler and his Cabinet Ministers. I thought that's what Wolfie was looking for...... following along FL lines. So I looked it up for him to let him know that there is a Vizekanzler but it is not a separate office, etc. etc.,
