Fleas?

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Fleas?

Ok, long story, big problem.

My grandfather moved out of his house and into a retirement home. Not too long ago he decided to sell his house, so to facilitate this his kids all went to the task of fixing up the place, my dad included. Problem: The neighbor has chickens and the house is (or at least was) impossibly infested with "fleas" and my dad brought some home.

So, now he wakes up at all hours of the nite, "flea" bitten, turns on all the lights, and looks for them .

They do not bother anybody else, and we have yet to see them. -_-

So, we have decided he is not crazy since my mom now claims she can feel them too. Whenever we put an entire day of work into washing thier sheets and laundry and vaccuming the entire house it alieviates the problem for a few days but they still come back. I do not think they are fleas and here is why...
-they are too small to see
-they have no host except my dad and he wouldn't support this sort of population
-other things I can't remember right now

HELP! Any ideas on what they could be/how to deal with them?

Ok everyone, let's see some holiday spirit!

Yes, you get this great product called flea spray - one SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED for rooms and furniture. Fleas NEST under objects, they like dark areas, so UNDER MATRESS of BED, under couches, tables, wardrobes EVERYWHERE!! Now spray everything too. Then vacuum. Then repeat if necessary. Its not in beds, but the backs of couches and chairs, the crack near the stairs. Next - there is obviously some serious nests in the house. We used to have cats, find where they slept and get flea killin sorta thing. IF they come back, SOMETHING is bringing them in. Check whats around.

In extreme cases, they might actually be UNDER the carpet, so you might end up needing to spray several cans round the house. Ask neighbours to deflea their cats too if possible - but be as tactful as possible.......owners hate to be accused of not looking after animals properly - they get VERY upset at it -lol

Good luck, they are pesky bu**ers

That's just it though, the can and dog don't come in! Anyway, they both are on lethal (to fleas) flea meds and the dog keeps ALL other animals out of the yard, except perhaps an ocasional squirrel and birds, nat. Nobody goes to the house with the infestation anymore and I think they are soon to close on a sale. Unless they sneak through the cracks so to speak I don't see how they can be here in such numbers.. no host!

O ya, and the entire house is hardwood and tile except one room which nobody goes in. One rug in the living room and thats it.

I'm reluctant to spary chemicals around....

@WLB

Time to deconstruct and make a list of everything that went with your Dad to the place: Break down everything your Dad wore and/or took to do the job. EVERTYTHING, shoes/boots, jacket/coat, belt, hat, gloves, tool belt, etc. What can be tossed, should be tossed immediately or fumigated..

Don't forget the car's carpeting, upholstery, door and ceiling liners and all other fabric covered surfaces. Maybe fumigate the car too.

AND you'll have to use the pesticide. Worst case scenario, call the pest control. They can tent up your house and fumigate it but this means everyone has to stay out of the house at least for 24 hours.

flamethrowers work wonders you know

It is better to aim for the stars and hit the tops of the trees than to aim for nothing and hit it dead on.

@bom
That is a terrible thing to say

Bob, That sucks
However, a flea can survive without a host, what you need to find out is what the flea is feeding on, except your father that is, and where they can possibly feed on.

I know there is an old house hold cure, to kill them without killing the host but I don't seem to remember.

Maybe I will later
But I will have to look up the fleas anatomy first.

Hmmm.

@Indy - Getting all the stuf he had over there isn't really feasable, as it would include most of his wardrobe and work boots (air foce steel toe) plus god knows what else. This has been going on a while too, so I suspect the entire house is the problem. But, even if you do fumigate, you bring back anything on your body.It's a troublesome problem because even if you go to extrimes all you have to do is miss one spot and it's all for nothing.

@bom -

@ff - Granted it would work, there would be no fleas left in the house... or anything else as the house wouldn't be there! Perhaps if it goes on long enough

@loc - that's just it, I have racked my brain trying to find another host and there isn't one. I can only think they come in from outside since it's cold.

Another thought... it could be an infestation at work. I'll ask about that.

Tactical Nukes work better in that scenario

Post Sun Dec 14, 2003 11:36 pm

OK here goes,

Fleas feed themselves on the blood of the host, sofar it's known for a flea.
further I have found out that flea also absorbs part of the oxygen, so what you have to do is "poison" the oxygen

There is a substance that can do that, Mix the blood of any known flea-carrying
organism (a dog or sth) with a mixture of ammonia and Thinner, That could Kill the flea within an instant. this is a non-human-lethality way, as long as no-one would taste or otherwise get in touch with the stuff
There is however another method, Ammonium gas, 50% pure would do the trick
it would suffocate the insects trachea and it will just choke. Be sure of it that no-one is in the house, Because it will overcome most organisms like humans within an instant and kill them slowly.

And Saiyan, Tactical Nukes are far overrated, Try Fusion Plasma
