Yup, you have to have some hardcore connection speeds to do proper clustering. I think most bog stock clusters need at least dedicated gigabit connections beween them. Even most OCNET connections have trouble reaching those speeds. Still it is food for thought for when Internet 2 and it's fibre network gets off the ground in 10 years or so (fingers crossed).

speaking of Internet 2, my wife was talking to Tim Berners-Lee the other day about that very same subject.

T.B-L, for those who don't know, is the guy who invented WWW. Without him we wouldn't be getting up at 3:30am to catch the end of an Ebay auction.... anyway he just rang with a billing enquiry, got chatting to my Mrs about Internet 2 but quite possibly was speaking to the worst person in Britain regarding anything computer related. Wish I'd got to speak to him I never get to speak to anyone interesting.

What did he say to her? Or did it lose its momentum in translation? If it was my missus, she'd have waited six months until she's stuck in a polite conversation in the corner of a party, and then would have told a complete stranger before telling me ("oh...I didn't think you'd be interested" etc)

of course I'm serious. what an opportunity wasted! I told her she should have rung me up and done a conference call with him. and she did tell me 3 days after it happened, while we were having us tea. gutted

Skynet doesn't need such a submission it takes all of her/his/it's decisions by itself.

Plus Skynet was just a single processor, not a computer.

First time I heard about it I thought they were yanking my chain too.

Whatever happens with this internet 2 thing happens. I like using things on the web, but I'm not one to get myself wrapped up in every new idea or technology. I'll just appreciate them when they get here.
