Barolo, starting at £15 and upwards to £60 (really good ones are expensive)
Amarone (mmmmmm!) starting at £12, up to about £30
Chianti, from about £5 up to about £35

Him, let.s see. On the low end you're saying, roughly

£5 = $9, Chianti
£12 = $21, Amarone
£15 = $26, Barolo

The Amarone and Barolo prices are similar although I'd say the prices here push them up another couple of £s or four, depends. The Chianti, I cannot believe! A $9 Chianti here probably isn't worth spit and I am not saying this just because of price. I haven't had a tasty C under $18 in donkey's years and if I want one that has some real complexity and melding of flavors, it is over £12 for sure.

In comparison, a decent Pugliese averages between $11 to $16 a bottle and that is the single bottle price. You probably should expect between a 10% to maybe even 15% discount if you buy by the case.... which I don't as I seem to be the only one touching alcohol in my house .

in my fridge one shall find:
1 large bowl smoked chicken
3 jars mayonaise (hmmmmmmmmmmmm...............mayo)
28 (yep 28) cans of tuna
and 1 bottle that may contain either vodka or dog piss,i aint tasting it

yep,gotta head to them thar shops soon.....

wtf? KS, 28 cans of tuna in ur fridge? why, ffs?

@Indy, there are plenty of reasonable Chianti's around the fiver mark, at least in the UK, as it's become very popular. In Italy I'd expect double the quality for the same price (except within spitting distance of the Ponte Vecchio where u will get ripped off)

I'll drop u a line later with some good recommendations!

@WLB

Have you ever had a sandwich made with the left over turkey, mashed potatos and cranberry sauce? If not, you've really got to try it - don't need anyting else, no mayonnaise... altho some folks add it. It's deeeeeelicious. Same goes with the stuffing instead of the mash although I prefer the mash.

It is just fine with me cold but some folks warm up the mash a little bit. Don't do anything with the bird meat though.... it'll dry out in the microwave.

Can't say I have, but I'll soon be desprate for somthing new I'm shure. Seems like the bread would be the bread taste and dressing would detract from the whole thing.

Fortunately there is some ham left too... or is there. *panicks*

@Taw,

I like the Picchierri. Am sipping it now. And it's a young one. 2000.

Here's what the label says:

2000 - Pichierri - Primitivo di Manduria - D.O.C.- Tradizione del Nonno.

I paid $11 for it. It is not an after dinner wine or a cocktail wine, so-to-speak (Not a port or sherry). But it definitely can stand on its own and need not be an accompaniment to a meal.

The 16% alcohol is vaguely noticeable in the form a slightly faster warming of the belly and mind.

It's got a nose that you need to be able to accept, though. It is kind of ruby port-like but the sweetness is in the aroma, not on the palate.
