bob3terd:

if your going to insult me and my country please lock this thread any way americans cant spell you use are language and you spell things differently and dont insult me please i have'nt done any thing to you
go back to english lessons please! for starters it should be:

if you're going to insult me and my country please lock this thread. (full stop) (Capital letter)Anyway americans cant spell you use OUR language and you spell things differently and don't insult me please i haven't done anything to you

I can't think of anything Americans spell differently, but I can think of things they SAY differently:
> AL-LOO-MIN-UM is spelt Aluminium and is pronounced AL-LOO-MIN-EE-UM
> TOE-MAY-TOE is spelt Tomato and is pronounced TOE-MAR-TOE
> BIR-MING-HAM is spelt Birmingham and is pronounced BIR-MING-HUM
> MC-DARN-OLDS is spelt McDonald's and is pronounced MC-DON-ALDS
> And first and foremost, they nicked the names of our cities! Since when have Birmingham and York (in the form New York) been in America!

Sorry bob3terd, but you do need to sharpen up your English skills, you're giving the rest of us a bad name !

-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-

Pueblo Station: "We expected them to come from the Silverton Asteroid Field, but they came from the Copperton Field and completely surprised us! The Liberty patrols were shot down like flies"

Williard Research Station: "Two more torpedoes have hit the Harmony, and our fighters are being shot down like flies!"

I wish Trent would say: "Flies are an intelligent animal with the shortest lifespan of any winged creature, they are very difficult to shoot down, and cannot breathe in space!"

firstly terd, take a look at the profiles around here...this forum is global (remember that inter-web-thingy you're on? ) there are plenty of brits here, including myself.

secondly. don't insult large amounts of people by stereotyping them...thats bordering on racist m8.

and finally...the reason why you are getting flamed...that is if you can call it flaming, personally I think they're getting soft ...is because your posts make no sense whatsoever! I don't mean to offend you, but you've been warned on more than one occasion by the regulars about it....if you take a few extra minutes and type out something with meaning - or at least punctuation - you'd get a lot more respect around here. We're an easy-going bunch most of the time.

Got to admit though, asking "whats your favourite episode" and then stating that you like them all is pretty lame...can't you ellaborate a little? Surely there must be a couple that stand out for you?

@terd, "things" is spelt the same both here and in America

Post Mon Nov 17, 2003 3:22 pm

@Cardamine,

What is it with Brits and wanting throw extra syllables into words that don't need them and then undergoing some kind of mass amnesia with other words that have them but are not pronounced?

In the US it IS aluminum and, therefore NOT alooominnyum as Brits would say.

Interestingly on a non-spelling and yet pronunciation front, British imperialism has raised its hoary head in the advertising field.

Now that Ford owns Jaguar and wants to push it in the US market as its new answer to the German and Japanese luxury models, all of sudden, American accented voices in tv ads are calling the the car Jagyooowarrrs. It's quite hysterically funny to hear it. I mean, a corn fed Nebraskan saying Jagyooowarrr?
May as well have the French running around shouting "achtung".

Edit: PS to Terd. You really do need to clean up your writing. Being
British does not mean acting as if you are plug ignorant to boot Please don't take this as bashing you. It's more a matter of courtesy to everyone else. If you're going to take the time to share your thoughts with the rest of us. Do us the courtesy of sharing them in an understandable way.

Edit: D'oh! Terd! You're a Brit? Yeesh. Talk about irony!

Good to see that just days before George W(hatsmynameagain?) Bush pays his "state" visit to the UK, anglo-american relationships are blossoming here on TLR

There is absolutely no point in slagging off each other...besides we'll always win ...why?...Mark Wahlberg, Pearl Harbour, Mariah Carey, McDonalds, Whitney Houston, "American Idol", American "Football", Married with Children, Plastic Surgery, Professional "Wrestling" and Country & Western "music"...

Post Mon Nov 17, 2003 5:06 pm

Umm....According to Turd's profile, it sais he's from the UK. Why are we calling him American?

And Cardamine.net, americans and Canadians/Brits spell some words diffrent.

American/Canadian
Color/Colour
Honor/Honour

There are some more, but I forget.

Life: No one gets out alive.

does this have to turn into a pissing contest for countries? I think the real problem here is terd's atrocious (sp?) spelling (gettit?). and his inability to answer his own question.

have you ever entered a competition when you were a little kid and you try REALLY hard, but the judge (usually your mother) says. "i cant decide...they ALL win". Its at that VERY moment, you wanna just slap the ***** and yell "DONT HAVE A COMPETITION IF THERE IS NO STANDOUT WINNER, YOU SHOULD HAVE JUST GIVEN ME THE PRIZE AND WE'D HAVE NONE OF THIS PAINTING A PICTURE RUBBISH"

i cant beleive my mum put me through all of that...my painting was FAR superior to my brothers and i....

...oh..i see to have slipped off on a tangent

For a correction, that 2nd sentence is one heck of a runon!

@Everyone - "Aluminium" (as it's discoverer named it) was spelled wrong when first published in America, and as a result, we call it "aluminum". Behold my wisdom..

Now really. Are we going to start criticizing each other's little language quirks? I enjoy looking at such differences with a little curiosity, as you may remember when I asked about English currency, but there is no reason to get bothered about it.

@Terd - Nobody is insulting you, or your country but the fact is you really are a miserable typist. All we ask is that you use a little bit better spelling and especialy use some punctuation!

TLR rules prevent me from making comment. And I really really DO want to comment (not necssarily in defense, mind) but... in fact, it is not so important as to jeopardize continuing even this thread.

Post Mon Nov 17, 2003 7:30 pm

it's a rubbish thread anyway, but at least we're all united in having a dig at terd's spelling/grammar/comprehension i think it's time this misbegotten creation was put out of it's misery.
