@Gromit

*bows humbly* forgive me...I had a life until six months ago...now I'm a reborn nerd....I will learn....

@Taw, about the patting, there's been an awful lot of touching going on these forums recently. It won't be long until you kids learn about cyberforumsex!

If that happens I'm out of here.

Flashpoint is one of my favorite computer games of all time. its been a while since ive come away from a game and been physicall exhausted because of it. its just so goddamn good. WAY ahead of its time IMHO. we dont even get to see games nowadays on par with it. Certain aspects of "get into any vehicle" game design are used now, but looking at the level design. By that i mean, the ISLAND design. you can seriously GO ANYWHERE. its like planetside or something. totally huge and emmersive. If i ever goto war, i hope its halfway as good as Flashpoint

its one of the few games where u design ur own missions and be totally surprised at the outcome, many times i've done one, started it up, thought "this is a bit dull" then all hell breaks loose and I'm thinking "bl**dy hell i didn't think it was going to be like this" and i'm pinned down and cut off and can't see a bl**dy thing and all my guys r dead or miles away doing something else. just like real war.

Actually, more like 5 months or so. Anyway, I agree with you guys on Operation Flashpoint, the best wargame ever made, like socom but a couple hundred times better, the controls are smooth and easy for all the vehicles..... the way the islands are spread about with bases scattered about filled with vehicles, the weapons very well replicated...... the way theres town all about the landscape (up of 15 per island) with each building done in painstaking detail (you can go inside, go up to the attic, crouch, whip out your sniper and watch for the next idiot to wander in). The game is like the ultimate in war simulations. The missions are hellah fun (but the game is pretty much real, so...... 2-3 shots is all you can take, and if your lucky, youll get shot in the legs (have to go prone everywhere) or get shot in the arm (couldnt shoot a fish in a barrel) but the game is awesome. I have the Resistance and Red Hammer expansions.

You get a really cool Mission Editor in the package and can make your own missions very very easily, i once made 30 engineers standing in a huge group and surrounded them by about 20 of my Heavy Machine Gunners , or, whats REALLY fun is put about 30 snipers on one side of the town, and 30 on the other side including you, talk about a long range firefight, dont even see where you just got it in the head from. Anyway, the vehicles are also very well done, the meters and various instruments in them really work and display ammo counts and fuel etc,etc. I remember playing Multiplayer with a 2 friends, Everon Co-Op (yeah im gonna make it fairly detailed).

Well, it started out as it does usually, people load up, get ready, jump into the jeep and we proceed to rescue some POW's, ill just skip this part, its the run of the mill roadblock/forest ambush (its just the 3 of us hehe) and, as we moved for the second objective (assault and clear a russian base, 10+ soldiers, a tank and 2 light amphibious vehicles) did i mention you can find ammmo and weapons in the field, and theres various classes, anti-tank, anti-air, machine gunner, soldier, officer (you can command AI players like a squad, need a medic? call for one) so as we moved through the thick forest towards the base (the forests are like real....... confusing, dense and plenty of cover, plus tanks crush trees, maybe your only warning heh).

Anyway, we devised a plan, 1 would sneak up to the bush and grenade the 3 man tank crew, jump in the tank and take the 2 light vehicles out, the machine gunner is keeping infantry cover and me...... (the Anti-Tank) well.... i watch for armors. He went, snuck up, tossed the grenade and went for the tank (the guards put him right back on the ground as he tried to climb in) so we lost one, he respawned and us two were alone and discovered we, im crouching there, all hell is breaking loose. Were running low on ammo etc... anyway, as i was laying in the bush (i consider this the most tense moment ever in this game) one of the light tanks runs over the bush, crushes it, and the tread stands like 2 inches away from my head (the tank commander looks through a slit, he cant see the ground directly in front of him)... im sitting there like oh **** oh **** oh **** im so dead...... after about..... 1 minute, it turns around and speeds away.

At this point im pulling out my law launcher (took out that tank after) and, the friend who was with me was looking out and all you can hear over roger wilco "Lucky *****, hahahaha" anyway, soon thereafter.... unfortunately, we got mowed down by special ops.......... round 2

bah! i've completely given up on DFLW now, it's not hard, just cr*p. there's either loads of enemies all shooting at u and they can see through walls, or they all stand around like zombies and u pick them off one by one. and ur poor soldier has to run everywhere, good job he never gets tired. total pants, now i remember why i stopped playing it 18months ago. I'm going to play Ghost Recon instead, then Flashpoint again.

Hmmm. Sorry Arc. Yes it is witty and yes it makes a point about the game but,
I'm sorry. There is no good in war at least, there is nothing amusing about war.

OK. Apologies to all about being such a wet rag.
