Here we have the issue of a thread being brought back to life with new pertinent info, as sS mentioned somewhere else (don't remember where...) I for one am glad to see it in this new light. Anyway...

That's good. They can mount it whole on the deck of the carrier, or perhaps the flight deck. The Essex carriers aren't terribly big, but certainly big enough on the deck for anything I know of. The Lexington is in corpus christie (closer 2 me) and it's an Essex as well

ive been on the Intrepid, nice ship, it was in the vietnam war as well. and, if memory serves, theyve got a bluebird on deck. they have a crappy gift shop though.

I went on the Nimitz once. I wasn't impressed or anything like that, honest. just 'cos our ship's comm mast didn't even reach the Nimitz' flight deck

ok it was VERY impressive, it made our little boat look like, er, a little boat, those yank supercarriers are bl**dy big, thousands of blokes onboard, loads of room, great facilities (gotta hand it to the US ther, they know how to look after their guys) when we invited some of them onto our ship they actually got claustrophobic! (because it was so small in comparison)

never mind, at least we didnt crash into the harbour wall while we were docking

f15's can fly on one wing, the f16 pilot that escorted the f15 in, asked to be transfered to f15's when he landed

the final flight of concorde just flew over bristol (about 15mins ago)...a friend of mine there leaned out of her office window and took a quick snap. The picture is quite poor, but historic nonetheless! I just thought I'd share it with you...

UPDATE: Here's 2 more - they're quite considerably better.

We have one here at the Museum of flight in Seattle. I got to see it last saturday. Its tiny on the inside. Only 2 chairs on each side and a hallway about .5 meters.

It is a really neat airplane.

Cool pix. When I get to the Intrepid, I hope the bird will be in nose up configuration. I have never seen her nose up in real life.

my dad travels a lot so a couple of weeks ago when we went to terminal 2 at heathrow i got real close to a Concorde being taxied to the runway and i have just one word to describe it "Schweeeeet"

I thought it was an ugly plane, but that doesn't mean I didn't admire it. I wish there were away to make faster planes more affordable because I can't stand 12 hour flights across the ocean.

When I went to England it took 12 hours. I am in the middle of the US but we do have an international airport.
