Kevin Smith

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Kevin Smith

Hi all...I was just wondering if any of you guys are as big a Kevin Smith fan as I am? If don't know what I'm talking about, Kevin smith is the writer/director genious behind Dogma, Mallrats, Clerks, Chasing Amy and Jay and Silent Bob...you may also recognise him as being the actor who plays Silent Bob in all of those movies and more.

Anybody?

yeah, Kevin Smith rules, ( I also watched Dogma on channel 4 last night )

I heard something about annother one of his movies comming out soon, but I don't know anything about it.

yeah its called "jersey girl"...it should have been released by now, but seems to have been held up in editing.

I've heard he's doing a "fletch" movie too...sort of a prequel, but thats all I know.

I'm sure they'll be cool though....I hope he reverts back to his old style (chasing amy, mallrats & clerks)...he seemed to lose his way a little with jay & silent bob....they're cool and everything, but I want to see him churn out some fast-paced intelligent comedy again instead of just slapstick.

Don't like him. All power to you tho.

u used to like the guy, but like so many of his ilk, he disapeared up his own arse crack.
Jay & Silent Bob was the last of the "Askewniverse" films, and once you get over the initial comedy value, its not all that great. Its become a bit of a "cool" thing to do, to like Kevin Smith films now, theres alot of people i know who use lines from his films (usually the base humor ones) as MSN names and stff like that.

He used to rock but now its just old. Ive grown up now and i dont think it works the same now that ive seen better stuff. Plus Jay bugs the crap out of me somthing chronic (gettit?)

I love Dogma. It's a grand movie. I have all of the Kevin Smith movies. I saw Jay and Silent Bob a few nights a go. I like how it refers back to the other movies. I can't wait for the next one.

I don't think kevin smith got stale at all, especially if you listen to or read the script of dogma....I think what happened was his characters (jay & silent bob) got too much of a base humour fan club, so they became bigger than his films. Hence the pointless "jay & silent bob strike back"....which I'm not knocking because in its own right it was a good movie, but as a kevin smith movie it was drivel.

I want to see him drag jason lee back into the starring role and bring back some intelligent humour like in chasing amy and clerks. They were just superb. i think now he's ditched jay and bob we may see a complete change in his writing.

I liked Dogma immensely, pity I haven't seen any other of his movies. Looks like I'll have to check movie rentals.

Just remember...if the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off.

Dogma is one of my favourites too....I'd recommend Mallrats next if you haven't seen the others, its a little lighter than Dogma but has a similar feel to it. That should ease you into Chasing Amy and Clerks which are a little bit heavier...and when you've seen the lot, check out Jay & Silent Bob strikes back just for all of the references to the other films....its really not the same unless you're bouncing on your seat, pointing at the screen and shouting "oooh! oooh! thats from Dogma! oooh! ooh! Mallrats!".

Look out for his Lucas and Spielberg references throughout his movies, he's a huge fan and likes to drop in references left, right and centre. Did you spot silent bob's "no ticket" line in Dogma?....a reference to Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade?....there's loads of em.

Kevin Smith is the best. I really want to see Clerks: The Animted Series. Also Kevin Smith appears in the Daredevil movie (He is also a writer on the Daredevil Comics)

he's a very capable director/writer and I love his work esp. Clerks which was superb, but I prefer the visual distictiveness of directors such as Paul Thomas Anderson. I saw Clerks the week b4 I saw Magnolia, I enjoyed Clerks a lot but Magnolia was breathtaking (imho) just my preference, I don't have ANY prob with KS' work.
