dim matter??

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

dim matter??

i know ther's dark matter.. but dim matter?

Explanation: Is our Milky Way Galaxy out to lunch? Recent wide field images and analyses now indicate that our home galaxy is actually still in the process of devouring its closest satellite neighbor. This unfortunate neighbor, the Sagittarius Dwarf galaxy, is now seen to be part of a larger Sagittarius Tidal Stream, a loose filament of stars, gas, and possibly dark matter that entangles the Milky Way. An artist's depiction of the stream is shown above. Speculation also holds that the Sagittarius Dwarf was once pulled through the Milky Way disk very close to our Sun's current location. An important resulting realization is that galaxies contain a jumble of clumps and filaments of both dim and dark matter.

OT. while you guys are at it, can you clarify dark matter for me?

Dark matter, about 99% of the universe excists of it.
It has something to do with the explanation of the expanding of the universe.

It's called dark matter because nobody could ever identify it.

That's what I know about it, not much andd I might be wrong, but I think I'm close anyway.

Back to the pic, that's weird.

Edit: found a link and reset the percentage to 99% instead of 80

@ kimk- Are you sure that wasn't a space fly smudged all-over the lens???
but as for dim-matter I do not know what it is.

@Nickless:

If we can't Identify Dark Matter. How could it possibly Exist??.
we wouldn't be able to Identify smell nor see it. Let alone Hear it

I for one have never heard of dim matter and don't know enough even about dark matter for discussion.

And of COURSE nomads have coffee! Any species that is intelegent enough to plan a takeover of serrius has GOT to be drinking coffee. You people suprise me sometimes

Dim matter; i beleive it is the unaccounted for matter that does not fall into the category of "dark" matter. Examples would be "brown" dwarfs, stars that never get enough mass enough to initiate nuclear fusion reactions, but are warm enough to emit detectable IR wavelengths. or it could be mini-black holes which although undetectable of themselves, have EM emissions coming from the matter that falls into their event horizons.

to be fair, "dark" matter is a catch-all term used (wrongly) to label all undetected matter in the universe. there may be many different sorts of dark matter or the undetected matter may be something else like neutrinos or theoretical WIMPs. all we really know is that something is exerting gravitational force but we can't find the something itself, and that the mass of most galaxies is 5-10 times greater than can be accounted for by visible matter (the mass-to-light ratio) yet this undetectable "stuff" is binding the galaxies together, otherwise they'd fly apart.

Yep, what Taw said. Check the second link, it explains in a few words very clearly what this stuff is all about.

Basically they can detect it by looking at the affects instead of the matter directly.

It's called dark matter because today's science has not the means to detect the matter. It's undetectable using Infra-red and all the other means they use. That's why they call it dark.

They know it's there because the galaxies spin a lot faster than they should according to there (estimated) masses. Wich means that there is something heavy out there providing the extra mass neccesary to keep the galaxies together. That extra mass is called Dark Matter .

Understand?
