virus

i think i'm infected with a virus, by the name of W32.Blaxer.exe i might be wrong on it, but it disappeared again. forgot to write it down. i think the main function is to drastically degenerate the computer's speed and efficiency as i have experienced while playing FL. i caught out 2 infected fiels. prolly gone to replicate itself, but anyone know how i can fix it? antivirus can't fix it on its own. it can't delete the file on its own so i followed this method;
ctrl+alt+del. bring up the window listing all running progs. end task on any program that don't look familiar. then, since the infected file is known, found by antivirus, i close in on the file, delete. so far, the only file i was able to find was a zipped file. so i'm guessing i can get it again from my windows disk. and that it din't play a significant role in running my comptuer since it was in the media players folder.

anyways, anyone know how to remove viruses completely the dirty way? as in no using antivirus. if so, pls tell me. my current knowledge of comptuers includes:
no ability to write any sort of program whatsoever. but i can modify most major systems on my comptuer. i.e. thru settings, and my comptuer>properties, change drivers the long way and so on.

so pls keep your explanations (if any) concise and to the point.

thanks lods guys.

I just don't get it. Why don't you try using a good antivirus - update ita and that's it. I think you could even get some programs for free or for a test period. Otherwise, you may just delete infected files, but what's the chance you'll get them all? Besides, deleting some files may result in you being unable to launch this or that program. So, my idea is that you should get a good antivirus.

I had it, horrible virus.

Use the Symatec Blaster killer, it works the best.

I have removed that virus from about 25 computers. Just go to norton.com and download the removal tool (free of charge), then go to microsoft's website and install the patch to prevent agenst reinfection.
