FL International Con/Lan

I was at work tonight, and I had a thought.

We all love playing Freelancer, right? Well, why not all get together, game, and talk about FL.

I was thinking about how to orgnize it. We're all from diffrent parts of the world. If people think it's a good idea, I'd get the countrys/provences/citys of people interested. I'd collect them all and put a pin on a big world map. Where ever the most pins are is where the meet will be.

If it's somewhere near me (Montreal, Quebec, Canada) I can find a center to hold this thing. But if it's somewhere else in the world, I'd ask people in that area to look into convention halls, hotel ball rooms and the like.

Of course it would cost us some cash to rent the place. And it would cost to fly to get where ever it it.

But ya, anyway, I was thinking that we could get engraved name tags with our username on TLR and our rank of the lan.

Anyway, thats my idea. I'm welcome to questions, comments, and advice.

Sounds like an ambitious idea...but i dont think there will be enough people willing to fly just to attend it. I wouldnt. I just dont have the time for it..,nor the money. Unless of course its set in Vancouver. ;D

And yes, that is the only flaw, people's willingness to partisapate or not.

I'd be up for a meet if it turned out to be in the UK...but I simply couldn't afford the £400+ flight to the US...well actually I probably could, but as I've just bought a new house I don't think I could justify it to the missus

me: "just off out darling"
her: "ok. when will you be back?"
me: "in about a week"
her: "thats nice dear, where are you off to?"
me: "I'm just going to spend all of our savings on a flight to the US so I can play the computer game that I normally play at home with a load of people I've never met before...you don't mind do you?"
her: "of course not! have a good time! don't worry about taking your key though because when you get back I'll have sold of your stuff and changed the locks...bye darling"

Why not just pick a server somewhere and go MP together at a set time and chat, and if you want to know what I look like, I can e-mail you a pic

As much as I hate to be defeatist about this, I think Nickless’s idea may be infinitely more feasible. (Could a time be arranged for a locked game on elite maybe, nudge nudge, wink wink admin). Although that would upset more people than it satisfied, i.e. 28 happy, the rest of the FL world p****d off.

You do see quite a few people from the forums on elite anyway, I'm sure that a time could be set that most could meet, even if it did mean playing at 03.00 in blighty.

LOL I don't think the people that play on Elite count as the entire FL world. Yeah I don't think it would work either, just too much cost for too little gain.

I'd be willing to help organise a UK meet though if anyone is interested....although I don't think I have the time to organise it on my own...

Maybe we could do a UK meet at the same time as a USA or Canada meet, and then all play online at the same time? Is there a server that could cope with that?

yes and connect the 2 places via a satlink or sth and portray it on a 7 ft. x 10 ft.
but if there is a UK meet I think I will be there.

I agree Nickless' idea is a lot simpler and alot more feasable.

I don't play alot of MP, aside from my friends servers. So, what would be a good place to host this thing?

year/year and a half sounds good to me....as long as it doesn't clash with my wedding next september...but saying that....maybe we could combine the two?!....a church would be the ideal setting for a UK MP meet!....don't worry about the wife, we'll do the vows and then I'll send her onto the reception...what dya reckon? lol
