anyone else play guitar? EDIT: now with links to my band...L

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

I'm not going to get into an argument about tapping because the way I see it, its definitely about your taste in music.

Personally, as much as I love metal, tapping died 15 years ago....but I can understand that lovers of spandex rock may still see its benefits.

For the "cool effect", learn how to solo in jazz or blues...and if you want to pull a lady, sit in a corner and play a little well-oiled classical...its extremely impressive when played well. Oh yeah...and don't forget to put the guitar down when people start to come near...the bashful thing only gets them wanting more

lol. trust me it works

I can see your point gromit, but tapping is a useful alternative when you can't quite wrap your fingers around a solo.

someone tell me what 'tapping' is.

Post Thu Aug 28, 2003 7:24 am

Tapping is when you tap the fret board instead of plucking the string, the tap will also produce the note of the particular fret you tapped upon. Does that make any sense???

i'm with you on that mustang...it can be quite useful...and definitely in its place can sound awesome. I'm just not a fan of tapping-overkill, know what i mean?

Post Thu Aug 28, 2003 12:19 pm

how do you tap the fret? isn't the fret the marker for half notes? you tap them? i'm gonna try.. it totally doens't make sense.. tap the fret? or the string? if you tap the string.. its kinda ridiculous.. i'll ask the teach.

Post Thu Aug 28, 2003 1:43 pm

Not tap the fret, the fret board. It's kinda hard to explain, you tap the string onto the fret board with the tip of your finger. It's like depressing the string to make a note, except you tap it to achieve a different sound.

Get your teacher to give you a demonstration, or better yet watch an old van halen video. Eddie Van Halen can get through a solo without resorting to tapping.

yup, a demo is what i'll ask for. do they teach this stuff? or is this just some other trick thing.

Post Thu Aug 28, 2003 2:03 pm

don't do it! don't do it! walk to the light...!

aaarggh! too late!

Post Thu Aug 28, 2003 7:30 pm

haha...another player sucsesfully turned to the darkside...
my work here is done...

as for what tapping actually is, it's just a trick that makes any song, and every song, 100,000,000 times more cool, right along side divebombs, artificial harmonics and sweep arpeggios
however, i think kimk's got a lot of learning to do yet before he's ready to learn tapping...so i won't confuse him...

my band just recorded a song that's got a cool tapping solo at the end. once its mixed i'll let you guys here it. anyone listen to those other songs i posted?

say MHael, that's some fine music you're doing there.
Next time you are on tour here in Holland, would you mind coming to anna paulowna and book the bar 't Ouwe Veer and drop me a note. Then I will certainly be there, because I just love Irish and Scottish folkmusic.

Yeah, musically I thought it was pretty good for thrash/death metal, as good as most ive heard.

Some constructive critisicm, the vocals really let it down. You guys should think about getting someone in who can really belt out a tune, cause it'll really give your stuff an extra punch. Even just in the areas where you want some normal singing. The guy you've got really needs to train his voice some more, he sounds unsure of how to use it.

Post Fri Aug 29, 2003 2:59 am

yeah...vocals could be better, but really there's nobody else around here that can even remotely sing, and we don't want another guy in the band...
so we just make do with what we got
