It looks like virus activity to me, have you run a scan of your hard drive? and is your virus scanner pattern file up to date?

Post Fri Aug 22, 2003 7:07 am

i have to go with mustang here....do you have norton? upgrading to 2003 if you have it wouldnt be a bad idea....also, activate any firewalls you may have on your computer....if you dont have any scanner...(even if you do) here is a good website, its a free online scan, and it finds just about anything...
Here it is

Good luck,
Alex

Nothing to worry about. That's just the result of your ISP catching viruses in the emails your getting. Or it can be ur ISP blocking viruses spoofing your email to send.

Just another worm breakout. You have nothing to worry about. Just dont open those emails up. Only open ones you trust. And keep a good and updated virus scanner running in the background.

it could be this new blaster worm which my computer had two days ago and we couldn't get on to the internet at all

Blaster doesnt spread by email. It's the So.Big virus that is flooding our inboxes with viral and "cannot send" emails.

you're right EB, i've just seen something about it on the news, it said the virus was on a worldwide scale and that it originated in the U.S and that most of china was infected by it

I scaned my PC yesturday and its all clean...

But the problem is that I did not send those emails...I just recieved 5 same emails this morning...also my firewall and internet security is on max. But it says I sent them...which is weird...I have no clue what to do

It is possible that someone you know and who has your e-mail address has a PC infected with a virus. It is sending e-mails with your address as the sender and they are being bounced back to you when they fail to arrive at their intended destination. There ain't a hell of a lot you can do about it unless you can track down the infected PC.

I just ran a trace on the senders address mentioned in your original post and it said Orlando, Florida. If that isn't near you, you at least have an idea where the messages are originating.

[email protected] is the AOL mail server which is bouncing the messages back to you, that is not the original sender.

Maybe someone is using you as a 'sleeper' for a flood attack or something like that... I wouldn't worry too much, because your comp isn't infected directly. About that scan: if it's a new virus, you might need new virus definitions, try updating your anti-virus.
@richard_s: I tried tracing the source, and it has a traceroute-feedback, which means, if you follow it, it follows you, plus it gets your ISP IP number, so the source may use it for masking... Creepy.

Careful what you wish... You might just get it.

It seems tracking you guys did scared the sender...I did not recieve those emails from 9:43am, and now its 3pm, hope it stays that way

Or it could be email I sent to verizon security...in any case is seems (for now) I am back to normal

I got a few of these a while back. they really freaked me out. I ran virus scan and it showed up nothing. Lots of wierd viruses going around lately. I run my virus scan constantly to make sure i don't get anything. I'm also careful about opening things up. I don't even open forwards, even if they are from people I know.

I poked arond the net, and I found out that it's a virus named Sobig.F that caused your headache... Apparently it randomly spreads by sending an "virus detected and cleaned" e-mail to everyone in your address book. And not just that: It also finds out your IP, your ISP's IP, and all subnet masks/routes, so that it can infect everyone on the same gateway as the infected comp... It infected 1 million comps in just a few hours... Did I say scary? I meant horrifying. Anyway, you just go on and update your antivirus, and do a 'deep scan'...
BTW, the virus is almost harmless, since it does no direct damage to the infected comp, but it does leave a back door, probably for 'future reference'...

Hmmmmmmmmm...could be that virus, but none of person thar are receavin age in my address book
