Games that reach out to you.

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Games that reach out to you.

Amongst the many games I have played, there are only two that have "reached out" to me, if you get my meaning.

Firstly it's Morrowind, with it's beautiful sunset/rise effects (especially the sun reflections on the water surface) and it's overall scenery.
And there is of course Freelancer. It gives me a kind of homecoming feeling, when I take my regular trade run with my trusty Humpback, that takes me between the Colorado and Tau-23 systems (I won't say what I trade, cause this isn't the spoiler forum ). After doing 7-8 of these runs and getting use to them, there is nothing like coming "home" to Colorado, cruising past the Battleship Rio Grande and thinking "only one trade lane left" .

Being affected by a game like this doesn't prove that I am insane, it only proves that the game developers really did their job

This should be moved to the off topic fourm, but i will respond anyway.

This game is one of the best that I have played. But it is also one of the games that has so much more potential.

Another game that I liked a lot was Medieval total war. That game was amazing, but it did get old after about 3 months. Just too repetitive.

Half-life was the best game ever released, IMO. Not too mention Half-life's other mods. For it being put out when it was, those were awsome Graphics. Its still okay, but I like the 3-D that the newer games puts out.

My least favorite of my games has to be Warcraft 3. It was a waste of money. That game got repetitve after the first campain set.

Oh yeah! Freelancer opened up my eyes to a whole new genre of games, the Spacesims.
After playing RTS for years, it got boring, so I thought I'd try something new.
I bought Freelancer and the rest is history.
I've completed the storyline 4 times and trying it for a fifth time with Hostile Universe V8 and I'm having a blast!
But even Unmodded Freelancer is a great game, although I have to agree with Xeno that it's got more potential than it shows. Just look at the rebalacing mods like MD's Rebalance, TNG and Hostile Universe.
If they only took more time to polish the game and make it into the bestseller it should be.
I'm quitely hoping for a sequal wich completely blows Freelancer away, because I know it's possible.
Until then, I'm just going to enjoy Freelancer as it is.

Off topic or not I have to throw something into this...

I like Morrowind a lot, has to be one of my favorite games. However the only problem (and benefit sort of) is that to keep myself interested in the game I always end up downloading mods. They're both good games, but Freelancer especially frustrated me, some of the problems with the game which have been brought up many, many, many times just take the fun out of the game. It turns an enjoyable experience into, god damnit not another trade lane disruption!!!

Anyway there's one thing that only one game has ever made me do. And it was a sega game Its the only game thats ever given me an adrenaline rush... and believe it or not it was the original Jurassic park game. The firts time the T-Rex busts through a wall scared the crap out of me...but i'll always remember that game.

I thought Morrowing was exceptionally cool. i bought it cause I was bored one day and needed something to keep my brain from constructive thought. I was really blown away but they have to do something with the combat, it's as dull as paste and is won or lost based on your stats.

Outcast. The music, and the gameworld stick in my mind

ahh yes, Outcast, Morrowind I liked them a lot. Tho I didn't play morrowind much coz its darn slow on me computer... I am overall a adventure gamer. I'm trying to get into rpg-s but I can't find any good ones. One of the best moments in my gaming history was Day Of The Tentacle. For me it even left Duke 3D Atomic far behinde.

Outcast was a superb game. To bad I had to download some weird patch because the American version (avainle in Holland) didn't work on European WIndows (or something). I had to download like 100 MB with my 56.6K (at that time)

I am an RTS kinda guy as well, but love anything having to do with the sci-fi aspect. I will give a bit away about myself here, but Star Control 2 really really grabbed me. After that, it was spacey-type time wasters all the way. I played Privateer on the same machine I played SC2 on, and damn was it good.

More recently, I couldn’t help but throw in StarCraft. I still LAN-play that with some of my friends. And Homeworld…like Freelancer, good story, good music, nice to look at, and very engaging. It gave the player an identity, just like Freelancer does.

It also didn’t rank incredibly high on the replayability list, and was modded inside and out. I think that, in some ways, how…shallow…Freelancer (SP, out-of-the-box) was really spurred the players into making something more out of it. Other games have had, say, 3 equivalent playable ships, but rarely have I seen them spark the debate that has come up here.

Ahh…I relish any trip down Gaming-Nostalgia Lane. Freelancer gets a prominent address there.

Thanks for the list everyone...I'll have to give some of these a shot.
