Star Wars, the dark side

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Star Wars, the dark side

Yes, it really happened.

That's the answer to the question most people ask, when the topic of the Star Wars Holiday Special comes up. Many people actually did see it in its first and only airing on November 17, 1978. Because of, well, pretty much everything about the show, you're justified if you doubt your own memory. It's not really what you'd expect would have come from George Lucas.

For those not in the loop, for those who might have heard whispers of this show, from strangers lurking in corners, here's the deal:

The Star Wars Holiday Special is a two-hour Christmas special in the tradition of holiday cartoons and shows from the 1970s and 1980s, with everyone from Yogi Bear to Alvin and the Chipmunks, all with hijinks ensuing around a holiday theme. Christmas is a big time for the kids, and cartoon people would be nuts not to capitalize on it. Well, the Star Wars gang did the same thing.

I heard about it years ago, but I was just recently reminded

I caught the last 20 minutes of it when it originally showed in Australia in about 1979 or 80. I was so pissed that I missed most of it I burst into tears.

Well Since I was born in 1980, I didn't see it first time round

lucas famously went around and tried to buy every original copy of the show imediately after it went out but didnt get them all.
He was asked recently about it and he said if he had the time and money to do it, he's scour the earth and destroy every last copy of it

I saw it when it first appeared on TV. It was followed by an animated cartoon with Boba Fett in it. The first appearance ever of Boba Fett, or so I am told.

thats right, in fact the cartoon with boba fett is regarded as the only quality peice in the Holiday Special. It was also used as a test because lucas was (at the time) considering continuing the saga as a tv series but the film was successful enough that fox allowed lucas to continue is series in film

lol Ewoks Adventure: Caravan of Courage, now that's class entertainment! haw-haw-haw-haw

the only good thing about Ewoks is the acrid stench of their fur as they burn under Imperial blasters. God I hate Ewoks. Just how did a bunch of illiterate teddy-bears defeat the Galactic Empire? Ewoks make Hobbits look menacing.

Think I'll have another bash at Jedi Outcast, Kyle's getting quite bad now, who wants to be mates with Luke and the New Republic? not me, I made my journey to the Dark Side long ago...
