Transformers

Guess what Hollywood wants to adapt to the big screen THIS time.............Transformers

Yep, you heard it right ! X-Men and X-Men 2 Writer/Producer Tom DeSanto and Angry Films chief Don Murphy (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) have teamed to make a live-action movie about Transformers.

Murphy: "Transformers enjoys an amazing fan base worldwide, and we believe that we can create an incredibly fast-paced, exciting movie that will be appealing to anyone who loves action films,"

Introduced in the mid-1980s, the Transformers brand centers on a group of robots that are able to change into a variety of objects, such as cars, trucks, planes, ships and other technological creations.

The feature film will tell the story of an intergalactic war between two races of robots: the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons. When their fight comes to Earth, the future of humanity inevitably hangs in the balance.

What do you guys think ? Are these guys making a huge mistake by adapting it to the big screen or could this actually turn out to be a fun and cool looking movie ? Opinions please.....

hmmmmm mixed feelings.......
It's TRANSFORMERS!!! so that must be good,
but I've got a bad feeling that it'll look like power rangers with men in funny suits running around minaturised cities, it'll probably lose the vaguely manga look to it as well

I certainly hope it's not going to be like Power Rangers, but I guess it won't, because this Tom DeSanto did X-Men and will probably use a lot of CG. I just hope that they will do their best on the CG, because most of the time when CG is used in movies, it just looks cheesy and crappy...

*fingers crossed*

Fiver says it kicks ass

About time someone spotted the mountains of cash to be made from transformers.

Finally i'll be able to complete that one where you bought the hands/feet/legs/arms/body/head separately for about a tenner/limb and joined them all together. I could only ever afford one of the feet....

By Chris Gardner

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "The Transformers" -- the ever-morphing Hasbro toy line that spawned comic books, TV series and an animated feature -- are ready to change shape again, this time into live-action stars of the big screen.

Angry Films chief Don Murphy (whose next film is "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" and writer-producer Tom DeSanto ("X-Men" and "X2: X-Men United" have teamed to produce a feature-length, live-action movie based on the popular brand.

The duo are expected to shop the project to studios shortly, and DeSanto said they have already received interest from a handful of directors.

DeSanto is currently working on a story treatment for the project before he and Murphy hire a screenwriter to adapt it for the big screen.

"Transformers enjoys an amazing fan base worldwide, and we believe that we can create an incredibly fast-paced, exciting movie that will be appealing to anyone who loves action films," Murphy said in a statement.

Added DeSanto: "Transformers is one of the properties I have been infatuated with for a long time. Like 'X-Men,' Transformers offers an amazing mythology with all the elements to create a successful ongoing franchise, iconic characters, global themes and a world that has never been seen before onscreen."

"We loved the creative take that Tom and Don presented to us," said Jane Ritson-Parsons, president of the Hasbro Properties Group. "And for Hasbro, the center of our corporate strategy is extending our core brands in a variety of entertainment forms ... This is a franchise where the next story arc and the next destination is on the big screen."

The Transformers was introduced in the United States by Hasbro in 1984 as a boy-friendly toy line. But even though the brand has been around awhile, it enjoys continued success, with sales up 64% in 2002 over 2001, according to Hasbro.

Currently, they can be seen seven times a week via the series "Transformers Armada" on the Cartoon Network. According to Hasbro, additional television programs and comic books are on the schedule for 2004.

The only time Transformers came to the big screen was in 1986 with the animated feature "The Transformers: The Movie."

@lord of sun system:

Your post is really unnecessary (like some other posts you made btw), because I already explained a lot in the initial post and made a link to the site where I got it from, so why are you repeating it ? They have a word for that you know....it's called spamming. Maybe you want to climb the ranks as fast a possible, but this is certainly not the way. It won't gain you any respect from the other members.

Just an observation. Do with it as you like

Sounds great. I hope the Autobots and Decepticons look like the old ones and not the Armada ones

omfg.. what were they thinking.. my cousins seem to love it.. tho i never saw the appeal.. first time i watched an episode was my last. there are older, but much better (original) series similar to that of transformers in korea.. only if i could get my hands on them.. speaking of tranformers.. they remind me of mechwarriors the game..'cept that they got ppl in them.

Knowledge is power.
Time is money.
power = work/time
therefore, knowledge= work/money
therefore, money = work/knowledge
therefore, money is inversely proportional to knowledge.

therefore,

Transformers the movie... Hmmm....
I just hope they don't ruin the Transformers' reputation...

Careful what you wish... You might just get it.

Who are these people that produce this stuff. All that money, training and (alleged) talent and all they can think of is Transformers. Yay for hollywood, another 2hrs of unoriginal and worthless drivel shoved in front of the great unwashed to fund the next pointless and uninspired hollywood adventure.

/end rant: sorry having a bad day and this topic just screamed "target for wayward hostility."

You're right about not being properly introduced to Lord, because today was the first day I have seen him (I haven't been around much lately) and yes, I know I shouldn't responds to him or try to persuade him to turn away from the 'dark side' (), but his posts really annoy me and unfortunately I'm to merciful sometimes.

It might be cool if they include Brawn. He was that little Autobot who always wanted to fight and all the other Autobots would always say, "slow down Brawn." On one episode they were fighting and someone hit Megatron and that big gun he had on his arm fell off and Brawn drove over to it and a little hatch opened on his underside and a little claw came out and grabbed Megatron's gun. Then he turned back into a robot and said, "let's give Megatron a taste of his own medicine." Then he shot Megatron with is own gun. Boy was Megatron ticked off!

Let's get those missiles ready to destroy the universe!!
