How large is the Universe???

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Regarding dinos being a few thousand yr old!!!!! - Carbon-dating
Plus scientific data has found human civilizations being older than that, a lot older.
My pet dino here at the genetic institute where I spend my days agrees with me

As for the universe, I hear it's constantly expanding anyway. It could be small, I mean it fits in a marble according to 'Men in Black'

Seriously....universe is V.large and dinos V.old

It could be expanding forever, it could be expanding to a point, and then retracting back to singulatiry again, or it could expand to a point and remain static (balance between energy and mass)
All of this depends on how much matter there is. If total mass < critical, then the 'Universe' (I still think it's a Multiverse) will forever expand. If total mass = critical then we have a static 'Universe'.
If total mass exceedes critical, well, we will all become much closer than we want to
I'd better stop now, before it gets ugly...

Don't worry, before that happens the earth will have reversed it's rotation and according to one theory, time will go backwards.....
Then to quote Red Dwarf....

"Santa Clause is the fat *** who comes down the chimney and steals all your favourite presents!!"

Just think of all those wonderful experiences you just don't want to go through backwards!!!!

The universe is so infinite that everything that you could possible imagine has happened.

This is what my old history tutor once told me

After he said this he then said a gnome standing upside down on the the ceiling covered in butter. As if to indicate that somewhere out there it already happened!!!!!!!!

What do you think reckon?

i rekon i need to get hold of the decent star wars episodes 1 & 2 that are out there on DVD in space somewhere cause thats what i imagined once.

i have no idea about the universe, i know its big and that kinda suits me, figuring out HOW big is like trying to catch santa on christmas, kinda ruins it, takes the magic out of it etc.

HOWERVER, 1) scientists are assholes, y'know how loads of what they say about space is THEORIES. i can come up with theories, YOU can come up with theories, GEORGE BUSH and ADOLF HITLER could come up with theories, if your DOG cood speak, he'd give you a few theories of his own, theories like these can NEVER be proven, not are they any acurate AT ALL cause were just sitting on this rock orbitting the sun, were gonna have to get OUT THERE to start making crazy theories like those.

2) dinosaurs ARE millions of years old.
yknow HOW i know this?

CAUSE HUMAN BEINGS HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS AND NONE EVER BUMPED INTO DINOSAURS!!!!

scientists looking at dinosaurs are ALOT more accurate, dinosaurs existed on earth which is kinda our area of experise when it comes to science, weve found men burried underground that existed thousands of years ago right about a meter underground? then about a house distance down or father, you start to find those elusive dinosaurs.

now ok, that distance was fabricated, but when you have earth layers and **** like that, its A LOT easier to say how old things are.

Aside from carbon dating, we have WRITTEN HISTORY for at least 5000 years. No carbon dating necessary, just translating calendars. I think the oldest in the West is a record left by some Scorpion fella in Egypt. Yes, that hidious movie CAN claim some historical grounding (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/235724.stm). Only in the name of the title, though. Not sure how old history in China is.

ok, explain the dinosuar and human footprints that are side by side in a valley in america.

and how scientists have sucessfully made oil from rubbish in an hour when everyone else says it takes millions of years

crock=dinosaur

If the size of the unix=verse is mind-boggling, what about the theory of parallel universes? What about Quantum-mechanics? beh. this is why I wouldn't make a good physicist

Dinosaurs are extinct? i saw a big purple singing one on the telly this morning...

FF, funny you say that. I mean, it seems like that would solve all the worlds energy problems forever! I mean, we produce millions of tons of garbage, and consume thousands of tons of oil! All we have to do is fix that nasty pollution problem. So can you provide some links please?

Post Wed Jul 02, 2003 12:37 pm

Yes I'd be interested in seeing some documentation on how oil is produced from rubbish.

Post Wed Jul 02, 2003 1:58 pm

nah they'll slam some comets into Io and get the oil from there.

WMAP data tell us the age of our universe with a margin of error of close to 1%...

And the answer is:

13.7 Billion Years Old!

I don't know if someone posted this but I'm to lazy to read it all
I know this has nothing to do with the size of the univers but it has a key concept in calculating it.
once you know the speed it expands.
and one day shrink.
edit I'll leave a link.the picture was quite BIG
