Is Apache overrated? (military tech discussion only!)
This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

apache's should be used with cover cuz they can carry quite a bit of armament that can take out quite a bit, use them as air-borne torp launcher style. in starlancer. i'd say the more agile comanche's are better for taking out mobile targets, air or ground. altho i'd say A-10's are one good can-opener. i seriously don't like the apache cuz its soo ugly, and its cockpit looks like a demented fish. and its efams just stick out, asking to get hit.

I don't know what to say about helos, seeing as I've obviously never flown one. But let's look at the pros of an AH:
1) Able to sortie quicker: You can have FARPs( Forward Arming and Refueling Points) stationed closer to the front lines than you can with runways.
2) Stealthy: Choppers can sneak behind hills, and fly low enough to confuse AA radar
3) A stable weapons platform: The thing can hover, giving it as much time as fuel allows to engage.
Now I know this microlist is pretty small, and probably full of holes, but this is my 2 cents.

Remember folks, the Apache was designed for tank-busting operations. The Longbow epitomizes this seeing as how it can rail-fire 16 hellfires and guide them to unique targets. The Longbow FCR really opened up the AH-64D's capabilities in taking out entrenched armor. While the RAH-66 is nice and all (what being a stealth helicopter in flight, if not during fire missions) it was designed as a scout/attack craft. Meaning, the Comanche is just not suited to the true attack aircraft role. It is a light recon craft, comparable to a heavily armed Kiowa Warrior. As you can tell, I am kind of biased towards the Longbow...but then again, any aircraft that can take several 30mm cannon rounds and still protect the pilots deserves respect (which is why I also hold the A-10 in high esteem as well). Now for a pro/con list of the AH-64D:
Pro:
Semi-stealthy (has an exhaust redirector to dispense the heat from the engine evenly across the area around it, and a "blackhole" radar jammer that jams radar in about a 45 degree angle on each side)
Can carry up to 16 Hellfire Mk2 laser/radar guided missiles as well as 4 Stinger/Sidewinder ATA missiles.
Rotors can withstand 12.7mm machine gun fire (it might have been 20mm...but I'm not too sure about that), the fuselage can take 30mm cannon fire, and the pilot compartment (calling it that to avoid using cockpit) can take 20mm rounds.
Longbow FCR can track 256 independant targets and can designate multiple PFZ's to attack up to 16 targets simultaneously and send off PFZ's to wing-mates
Cons:
Speed (limited to about 160 knots)
Lacks true stealth abilities
maneuverability could be better (but this is restricted because of the overall mass of the aircraft...the Apache ain't a Comanche/Kiowa Warrior)
I think that's about it. Dang, this post is long. Signing off. Good hunting...out!

It's a great aircraft, but, as with any helicopter, if it comes into contact with a fighter, that thing is gone.

I like simple things: the more complex the weapon -- the less(harder) you use it's full potential. So why make complex, expensive and hard to use weaps, when you can make 5 simpler, easier to use and maintain but still good weapons?
Suma Sumarum: No, I don't like the AH64 Apache, i like 5 Mikoyans or 3 Commanches(for that money) better...

it all depends on what kinda fighter plane you're up against..i'd say if you were going up against one of those that the red baron flew.. that thing's like 5mm.. it won't do jack.. but if your up against maybe a mig.. its gonna be skill against skill. no aircraft i know (except the harrier maybe and other VTOLs) can carry that many hellfires and sidewinders and stingers and take that much gunfire. so i'd say the apache can be used for something similar to an airborn artillery fire support for the front line aircraft if your going to do an all out chopper flight combat. the front line could be some longbows or some of those double rotor choppers.. on a single axle comanches can be used for softening up AA guns. they are that small you can creep to just in front and below its range and just open a window and lob a grenade..

I just want my own personal Comanche. Is that too much to ask?
Sigh....

Angel : Bhurak Starkiller, sir?
Halcyon : He’s Kilrah’s hottest pilot in the Salthi light fighter.
Hehe, titbits.
