SARS what do You know?

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

severe acute respiratory syndrome...the virus belongs to the same family as that which causes measles (if memory serves) serveral un-aware health care ppl got it cause of its ability to spread through air contact. um . . . and. . . basically, you have a chance of recovery coz i went onto WHO some time ago and there were ppl that recovered. or maybe they were mis-diagnosed in the first place. all they can do is give you antibodies and hope for the best, and you basically die of respiratory difficulties (i.e. you cough/choke to death)

its less contagous than other types of flu and there is only a 4% mortalty rate so its only about 1 person in 20 who will die if they get it, all in all its not as serious as some of the news reports make it seem

Well, I know "Severe Acute..." is redundant. And if you want an example of a contradiction, look at Zlo's post and then look at his sig

my dad is an anesthiologist, he said that SARS could be the next polio its more serious that StarShock put it, however he also said that they have the technology to create a vaccine soon, it would have been sooner if china hadn't hid the fact that it was a problem in the first place

I know I'm not getting on a plane to Asia anytime soon.

What is it with all the people wearing masks to keep from getting SARS? Does that really make a difference? Isn't a virus small enough to get through a piece of cloth? I've always been a little skeptical that some of the things we do for protection don't really work that well and are just there to make people feel better.

Anyone having dreams of a black old woman sitting in front of a house in Nebraska with a swing set hanging from a tree nearby? or a dark man? Anyone?

Man, your dreams are weird...dreaming of black old woman or old man. Could you dream of young women instead ( race does not matter ) it would sound mush better...but old

if 1million people will get infected, that 4% mortality is something like 40000 people. it's still something to think about.

Some of the news reports I've heard lead me to believe that they're making progress in coming up with a vaccine for SARS. Hopefully the spread of this disease will slow. Right now I'm not too worried about dying from SARS, or even getting it, but I would feel much better if they announced they could stop it. I don't mind taking my chances but I have a family and something that might not affect me too much might do real harm to my baby.

From what I've heard the SARS virus is a mutated version of a chicken flu virus. It's mutated enough to become zoonotic, i.e. we can get it too, however since the virus is so new to the human race there are little/no antibodies to it.
Has any one else heard this?
Ugnaught, a virus will not survive long outside of the human body, by wearing a mask you can avoid inhaling the moisture in the breath, which would be most likely to contain the virus if it is airborne, this all depends on the fit of the mask and how reliable the filter is.

My health teacher told me today that we in USA are safe. The reason for this she said is because no international flights from China are coming here. But Canada has a lot more SARS cases than USA so I fell kind of nervous about that because SARS can be transferred through air, so I do not know how safe we are.

If there is no vaccine made soon this could became something like plague.
