This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

MP3 player help

I already own the Riovolt sp100 which is a mp3/cd player but its buggin the hell out of me that I gotta burn music to a cd first.....so, i have been looking into buying another mp3 player. The thing is that I want one with a FM tuner built in or as a cheap addon. So, i did some snooping around and found these two:

ARCHOS Jukebox FM Recorder™
-- I looked at some of the pictures on Archos' own site and it looks good. The interface is easy to use. Anyone have any experience with this piece of hardware? Quality of sound?

Creative Labs Nomad Jukebox Zen 20 GB -- I need to buy the FM wired remote to get the FM capability with this one, so thats one downer. But it is definitely smaller than the Archos by a bit. It also has a lot of those special audio effects but they arnt really necessary.

The FM wired remote:

Anyone have any experience with these? Or maybe got suggestions on other ones?

Hey EB, check out the reviews on www.maximumpc.com. They've had several reviews on mp3 players. Their reviews are usually on the mark. Hope that helps.

i have a ARCHOS and i used to have several earlier, its supposed to be one of the most powerful MP3 players on the market today. I own one and i like it a lot, its a very good MP3 player.

Comont, which model? Ive read stuff about it crashing and about Archo's bad tech support.

Can you take out the battery and replace it when it gets worn?

If I had the money I'd buy the I-Bead 100 128/256MB.

Dont know if it is what youre looking for EB.

Currently I have a Freecom Beatman Flash MP3 player, but the volume-button is stuck, so I cant change volume.
Have to send it back for reapair/replacement.

I need something with more space than a CD. I also need something with radio capabilities.

I read reviews for both the Archos and the Zen and I have decided to go with the Zen. It's more expensive especially when I must go and buy the additional Wired Remote, but I think its worth it when you know youll be getting a good solid product unlike the Archos which has a much higher probability of being defective. Not to mention Creative updates the firmware regularly. And its smaller than the Archos and lighter. The only bad thing about the Zen, from what I read, is the fact that you cannot take out and replace the Lithium ion battery if anything were to happen to it, but im careful and from what I read, its shouldnt cause much concern.

Good choice ElectricBrain, i would have done the same, but you jinxed mine, the lcd screen is displaying only half the number or the letter, it looks freaky, if your gonna buy the Zen let me know how you like it, i might wanna buy one too especially since this crappy archos just let me down. Half the screen doesnt even work and the part that does only shows little tiny parts of letters

The Zen is a good player, from what I've read as well. Many ppl are comparing it to the iPod, and with the Zen having a REAL remote (as in the ones that CD players/MD players have) it's a good deal. Does the Zen have FM? Line-in recording? Just curious.

The remote is optional and an additional 80 bucks Which is a ripoff I guess but i still want it. I usually buy on impulse.

When are you getting ur credit card, kev?

No, it doesnt have line in and I dont need one. The remote adds the ability to record voice and radio. Thats about it.
