Wing Commander Movie Sequel Ideas

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Wing Commander Movie Sequel Ideas

As I said in my other topic, and as the subject line suggests, I posted this topic to get a feel for what everyone might think would be good ideas for a sequel to the Wing Commander Movie, which, I think everyone would agree, had outstanding potential that it didn't come close to realizing. So, please, post your plot ideas, cast recommendations, and anything else you think applies.

As I posted in the other topic, moderators, please keep an eye on this topic and if it warrants, please sticky it. Thank you.

You know there is a live-action show in the making, yes? I'm not sure whether it will be based off the movie or not. I surely hope not.

I know nothing of this. Please convey ANY AND ALL INFO regarding it.

Well, personally I'd like to see the time period just prior to the Kilrathi war. Maybe even the events leading up to the war. Heck, I'd also like to see the actual Tiger's Claw and a wing of hornets/raptors/rapiers capturing the Ralatha class cruiser (you know, the one Hobbes was in...er, that is you'd know if you were huge fans of the games--particularly the first one and the second expansion). And here's an idea: depict the movie in a sort of Starship Trooper-ish way. Even though ST sucked (flame me if you want...but I believe that there is such a thing as being too campy), the way they delivered the movie was pretty cool.

As for cast considerations........well, I haven't seen any movies recently in the theaters with actors who could play a blair/marshal/whoever. Keep in mind, if they made a movie taking place in the time period of the first game, the actors would have to be under 25. Looking back on the way Tolwyn was illustrated in WC2, I'd say he could be played by Tom Skerritt (hehe, the last movie I saw in the theater was Tears of the Sun, Skerritt played the commanding officer of an aircraft carrier). But this time, they better make Paladin scottish, by gum! Of course, this would be my idea of a good (at least better) Wing Commander movie. Anyways, there's my 2 cents. Cheers.

I've heard that the live-action show is going to be set in and around the Terran Confederation Space Academy

Where did you found this info TG ? Because info on the new live-action show is very scarce.

*sighs* If thats true then I'll tell you what the show will be like, a bunch of Rookie trainie pilots still in the academy defending the universe against a hardended Kilrathi verteran attack force. Heres an example, DS9, IMO it wasn't the greatest show in the world, but it was significantly more interesting when the war with the Dominion picked up and they stopped waltzing around with the Bojorans and the Prophets. The WC show should be fast paced and action packed (like the game). Heres an idea, pick it up where the movie left off. (Not immediatly after, say 2 or 3 months, so people who haven't seen the movie don't not understand the series and discontinue watching it) if done properly people may then decide to watch the film, or maybe even provoke Origin to re-release the original games in a new format. (Before somebody says I know the complications over the WC trademarks)

I think I heard it over on the WC CIC Forums. But there was a WC Academy Animated Series that was pretty cool

Post Tue Apr 01, 2003 5:28 pm

I have all 13 episodes of the animated Wing Commander Academy. It's geared for kids. I would MUCH rather see this rumored live-action series take place at the front lines. And I still want more info on this thing. I'm gonna head over to the CIC site and see what I can scrounge up.

As for my idea for the sequel....

I would like to see the same guy play Tolwyn. He did a good job of it. But the guy who played his assistant should be playing Paladin. Unfortunately, the saga has already begun and the best hope is to force the previous cast to do a MUCH FREAKING BETTER job. If you swap out characters now it's not gonna feel right. Which means, having casted who they did for the first one, they've screwed themselves over.

why are we talking about this movie. it smells of ass. making spin offs of games is the worst idea if you cant do anything you havent already done.

if a story can only be told through the visual medium with no interactivity then i say go for it. but if it looses a sense of tension or excitement when its a film then dont bother. making a film/tv series of a game for the plane sake of making it is doomed to fail, because fans will go in expecting something new and a rehash of the same story but without the fighting and combat that made it fun in the first place.

No No No, Malcolm MacDowell is Tolwyn, not David Warner

Arcon, I thought you posted in the other topic that you practically worship the movie.

Top-Gun, are you stating that as your opinion of how it should be or are you saying this rumored TV series will have him playing Admiral Tolwyn?

Another thought, will the TV series, supposedly taking place in the Academy, have the same characters from the game and movie? I think for the sake of success it should have completely new characters with those we know and love making only cameo appearances. Maybe have just one or two making regular appearances, but don't keep 'em on as every episode cast members.

Just my thoughts.

I see that you have not gotten to know Arcon yet. To be blunt: he was being sarcastic on the other post.
