This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Movies

I just saw The Core and I felt compelled to tell you all YOU HAVE TO SEE IT! I'll post nothing more until I get replies from people who have seen it.

I also saw Dreamcatcher and I felt compelled to tell you all DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! The only good point of the movie was the little Animatrix short at the beginning, and even that wasn't all that great of a plot. The graphics, on the other hand, were spectacular. Nevertheless, Dreamcatcher is by no means worthy of a theater visit. A rental, yes, but by no means does it warrant a theater showing.

I havent seen the Core but it looks A LOT like Armageddon. The title logo itself looks like Armageddon's. They even have a Russian guy like Armageddon. They even have a "high tech built in 6 months" special vehicle like Armageddon. The world is going to be destroyed by some disaster like Armageddon. They also have that "we're all going to be dead in X amount of time" line that they used in Armageddon. Total crapola. Bleh....not to mention the crappy catch phrases they use like in their trailer: "We're going in" OOOOOHHH!!!!! cliched

Yes, im done.

That's a very good point. I think it might have been the same director or writers or something. Not sure, though. Still, though, like Armageddon, it was REALLY good, except this one doesn't have as many people on the team, fewer top-name actors, and, oh yeah, the movie Wing Commander's Paladin. I liked the action sequences in The Core better than in Armageddon. There are a few times when the graphics could have been a lot better, but, as I'm a geek and hope to one day be an aspiring filmmaker, I drooled over the particulars of the plot. See it before casting judgement. I've got NO problems if you don't share y opinion, but I won't accept it if it's based on anything less than having seen the movie.

Ono, another big bad government weapon gone wrong, that will destroy the world in two weeks unless we use this handy experimental ship that can survive more pressure and more heat than Anna Nicole Smith's chair, yet still be comfortable inside? Ooh, and they have to outrun a scary shockwave once they "restart the planet"! Armageddon was bad, but at least it (aside from the billions of technical errors, bad acting, and casting Ben Affleck) was plausible, in a "well, I might still live after this bus going 90 MPH crushes me into the asphault" sort of way.

Andrw, I hope you succeed and become a great movie maker, but there are hundreds of better examples to learn from.

What if they said it took place in the distant future? Would that make it more plausible? I mean, at the moment, a situation such as that of Freelancer is not plausible, but no one has a problem with it because it takes place more than a thousand years from now. I like it because, while it's not likely to happen right now, it COULD happen. That's a major part of logic and philosophy. An argument doesn't have to be true. It's a matter of IF the premises were true, then the conclusion is plausible. So.... IF it were possible to stall the earth's core and do everything in the movie, THEN it would be plausible. Just like.... IF it were he 23rd century, THEN it would be plausible for there to be a war through he galaxy between two human factions and one could gain the upper hand, forcing the other to construct ships to carry their people to a distant part of the universe where 800 years later they colonize distant planets and systems and travel and trade among themselves and encounter an alien race bent on their destruction.

IF it were possible, THEN it would be plausible. That's what science fiction is all about. If you want reality, go outside. As for me, I'm goin' to the movies, because I'm sick of reality.

Being implausible doesn't automatically make a movie bad, but it certainly doesn't help. When it's taken to extremes - like Armageddon and it's recent cousin The Core, it kind of ruins it.

Just my opinion, but just placing something into the future doesn't make it any more plausible. For example, just about all science fiction is impossible. But, because there is so much of it, you begin to think "Ok, it's the future, they figured all this crap out". But when you see a space shuttle banking in and out of asteroids like a prop fighter pilot weaving through a formation of bombers, it just seems dumb. Maybe it's just me... Core seems to suffer from the same thing
