Modeling & Texture help Please ... I have a gun and am a

Hey Everybody,

I'm A long time reader, first time poster.

I have just started to delve into modeling for the first time in any game ever .. i have milkshap 3d and i have made my model , i have installed the exporter for .shp files and created a 3 textures according to the guidlines in the How to make a texture guide. I have placed those textures on the various objects of the model. all good so far .. I export the file and all goes well. The problem is when i go to load the ship with SLtool or SLedit. SLtool gives me an error Texure not found in Tchache file ( this is even after i have imported the textures into SLedit manualy) and SLedit also gives me an error of Not Valid SL SHP file. then imports the ship. but when i run SL it crashes with The Follwing Error

Basicly i Guess this means somthings gone wrong.. Any Ideas Guys this has been bugging me now for 3 days.

Cheers Blitzy.

You have to use BB code to place images. here i've done it for you:

Now about your model, check this:

Textures have to be .bmp
256x256 pixels and 256 colors

now if this is correct and it still doesnt work try exporting them as .3ds then using sl edit to convert it to .shp then if you are still having problems download this file:

http://rfw.worldofgamers.com/downloads/ ... 0files.zip

unzip the 3ds2shp.dll to your sl edit direcotry and thy converting the 3ds to an shp

Yep, what he said. I would guess you don't have them as .bmp files. However, when I would convert, I'd export as a .3ds and let SLedit do the converting.

Hmmm... Do you have SLEdit 2.16? After you get SLEdit, you have to get the update for it too. Also, I think there are 2 .dll files in that zip... if one doesn't work, try the other maybe. BUT, I think you're problem might be that the .bmp files are not in the SL palette... you either have to convert them to the SL palette in Paint Shop Pro, or use a APPROPRIATE preexisting SL texture from the TCache.

i am using the SLpal.pal file supplied with sledit and all my BMP's are correct just giving the 3ds conversion a shot now (fingers crossed)
