Judging from some minutes playtime:

Graphics suck IMHO. For todays standards I would have expected more.
I honestly think, even Freelancer looks better than this. Of course there is HDR and on some occasions you spot some shaders effects, but overall I think its not looking that good. (not speaking of a bug that does not show HDR effects with my ATI card..)
Combat ... umm, I was engaged by 2 pirates and died after some chasing..
Maybe combat can be fun but I already decided this game is not for me.

M8 everyone found it hard to get started but already people who found it hard are killing 5 Pirates alone so really give it more of a chance and learn the dodgeing controls and change them for your suit!

And maybe turn UP the graphics too because they must we low down for you, but for me THIS LOOK MUCH BETTER THAN FREELANCE AND DARKSTAR ONE!

Well I would like to see an icon for when there is loot to be picked up like in FL and I would like to see an energy drain bar so I know how much I can shoot like in FL also.

I do not like the radar at all you cant tell which way to go to find an object. I hated this style in X series and still hate it.

Also I like the point and click to target an object much better then hitting 5 different buttons to do the same thing with 1 click in FL.

A few minutes of play you say. Did you bother to put everything to the max? I saw the trailer and the graphics were awsome, that's all I needed to know to make my mind up, that and the fact that i've been following this game's development for the past few months. It looks way better than FL and the only thing it doesn't have is planetairy landings. This game is more focused on everything else and does it better and with a joystick no less. You said graphics could be better, true but also true of all PC games. It was done this way so that a wide range of PC's could play it without too much lag. A top of the line PC is expensive and not every one can afford it, like a lot of kid's parents. I need a new PC as well and I already say with my current system that this game's graphics rock, just imagine what this game will look like on my next hot rod.

Already my games are viewed on a 50" LCD Sony projection TV and a fully wireless system and I'll never go back to my desktop.

Seem to me this guy was quick in dismissing this game, you can go back playing FL until 2015, from now on i'm playing an adult space sim, have fun take care...

Please keep in mind that everyone is entitled to their opinion so lets not complain when someone voices their opinion about Spaceforce.
Lets keep the reviews to what you think about Spaceforce and not what other people may think about it.

You can't please everyone and not all games are going to be favorites.
At least we have a new game to discuss and the fact that it is modable will keep the game alive. Hopefully someday we'll get Multiplayer and that will create an even bigger community following.

If argument's start over opinions then the Moderators will have to step in and we don't want that to happen.

I'm using Vista; that may be the problem. But this game is simply -unplayable- for me. This machine has a NVIDIA GeForce 6150. The opening screen looks fantastic; the opening movie looks mediocre and the gameplay itself is so freezy and glitchy that it's impossibel to play. Does anyone else have this issue? Suggestions?

I didn't like it myself.Graphics were decent to good. That's about the only good thing I can say about it.

Now for my dislkes/hates.
1:Load times were ridiculusly long.
2:Combat and flying controls were a pain.
3:Oh the humanity!Where on Earth do they find voice actors nowadays?!Horrible!
4:You have no good indicators of lootables.

As bad as I found DSO,I find this game worse.I will probably at some point purchase a copy of DSO,when it gets cheap enough.I never see myself paying for this game.

Thank goodness for all the Freelancer mods and Lancers Reactor! If only newer games were as fun and easy to play.I have yet to find any that even hold a candle to Freelancer.

it is interesting to see how history repeats
first all cry "yea we want it"
and now ppl start crying "i dont like this... i dont like that" ... just from a few minutes playing

hell - i play FL for over 4 years now and still dont like it
but i gave it a chance

you dont like the hard controls? the hard opponents... all the other things that are NEW... or DIFFERENT?
get familar with it and you might realize after some time that it is good the way it is

Post Thu May 31, 2007 7:29 am

>i play FL for over 4 years now and still dont like it

Why do you play it then?
In general I dont play games that are no fun to me.

Post Thu May 31, 2007 8:44 am

In response to OP

WE all cried we want it then we are lied to about the game play and we find it a joke to play it as we are all looking for that next great Space game to buy that is like FL. Sorry to say DSO was a flop, and what I have seen in the demo of SFRU it will be also. The Devs said yes we have listened to you players. THen we see in the demo crap controls, graphics are not as good as FL IMO, voice acting is god-awful. This is just another form of X series so if you like X series you will like this game. If you like, Freelancer you will play it for about 5 hours, get disgusted with it, and uninstall it.

Therefore, when the game devs say one thing and release another you are going to hear it from us FL fans.

Why do you play it then?

friendship, responsibility, to improve things
(3 very good reasons if you ask me, better than my dislike for the game)

well lets see... DA and microsoft didnt lie the community?
considering how the development of FL was running FL was the biggest lie
the old Starlancer players which watched all this know best about it and i dont know a single of the old SL players which was really happy with the fact that MS turned a high speed action game (SL) into an unfinished unprecise mouse controlled "counterstrike in space"
id really love to see how a F18 pilot tries to handle his ship with an ordinary mouse and do complicated high skill maneuvers with it
compared with the deathmatch mode of SL... FL fights are just a joke

and honestly i dont consider X or DSO bad games or worse than FL
for sure they have better graphics... for sure their story is not worse than the FL story.... for sure the AI of the opponents is not as crappy as in FL... and for sure the gameplay (i just judge from the singleplay to make it fair) is also not worse than what FL has to offer
and in case of SFRU everything might be different again... but that doesnt make it worse than FL

to say SFRU has crap controls is pure bullsh*t as long you dont even try to get familar with it
FL has crap controls in my eyes.... whahhh mouse... too slow... not precise... but i got familar with it over time and got pretty good
but honestly a good space sim need to have joystick support since a pilot of a fight does use a joystick and not a damn mouse... a good space sim also has no 3rd person view coz the pilot does sit INSIDE the ship and not outside

considering that FL is old and rubish you should be glad to have an alternative and you try to stop this negative crap here or SFRU will end in the same way DSO did end here at LR (many players just went to other community and they are still active)
dont throw away a chance by doing subjective comments on comparisons of 2 totally different games
if you dont like it then dont play it... but let others the chance to make their own decision about the game

Post Thu May 31, 2007 11:33 am

Freelancer was the first space based game I could properly control a ship on.I did play SFRU for hours on end and it does not even come close to the ease of use that Freelancer had.A game that is "old and rubish" but is still more fun to play says something about a game.I game that isn't fun to play isn't really an alternative in my book.As both are space sims,I feel it is right to compare one to another. This community has been waiting a very long time for a new game to be the successor to Freelancer,so of course we will compare the two.

P.S. I don't recall seeing anyone post telling people to avoid the game. This is about our experiencing a game and reporting our thoughts on said game.Which means our opinions. No two people ever have the same opinions all the time,so settle down a notch there.

Personnaly i'm waiting for ratings, so no demo for me don't want to spoil it.
Having joystick is a deinately a plus. Fl is way too old for me to go back to, having played quite a few mods after a while 50 or 150 systems is all the same, it gets repetitifve. On a final not no amount of game trashing will keep a decided player from leaving the FL community, a fact of life is that in time games do pass away into oblivion and so will FL.

Does it mean we dislike or hate FL? No it certainly doesn't, we will rememeber it for a long time and people will talk about it for a long time. Now if only I could get a copy of SFRU here in Quebec? It's being delayed because there is no French rules booklet... Worst cas scenario i'll buy it accross border where there is no language discrimination, darn bill: 101

See you in space...
