Crossfire mod 1.70 and 1.70a

I've been trying to activate the Crossfire mod 1.70 and 1.70a but both mods eventually show the following error:

Error: SHCopyFile failed ('C:\Program Files\Games\Freelancer\EXE\spcontent.dll.flmmbak' to 'C:\Program Files\Games\Freelancer\DLLS\BIN\content.dll')

I've tried using the freelancer mod manager v1.3 and the latest beta version wich i believe is 1.4. I've also tried temporarily removing content.dll and spcontent.dll.flmmbak (shown as flmmbakspcontent.dll when opening the BIN folder). Does anyone have any suggestions on how to solve this problem?

It sounds like some of your files have been corrupted. Especially if you already tried removing stuff that should have been left alone.
Disregard trying to do a reinstall.

!!!First, copy your Freelancer MP account ID somewhere so you don't lose it.
Then, Uninstall everything and do a clean new install.
(Freelancer and Mod Manager).
Once Freelancer is freshly installed, install the patch, then the 1.3 and 1.5 SDK's.

Once that's done, Reload the Crossfire mods.
That should work.

okay so once more i was unsuccessful in getting the mod to work. here's what i did:

Deinstall Freelancer including mods, mod manager and everything else.
Reinstall Freelancer
Install mod manager 1.31
install sdk 1.4, then 1.5, then 1.70 and finally the patch 1.70a
Start up mod manager and activate mod 1.70

this is the error im getting now.
Error: SHCopyFile failed ('C:\Program Files\Games\Freelancer\DATA\characters\heads\trenthead.dfm.flmmbak' to 'C:\Program Files\Games\Freelancer\DATA\characters\heads\pi_pirate5_head.dfm')
Then after i restore the backup and try and reactivate it again i get the exact same error as in my previous post. What else could i possibly do!? :O

turns out im able to activate version 1.5 and play. I think the problem with the activation of v1.70 is that it is looking for a file called filename.dll.flmmbak that doesnt exist, i checked and all files in the freelancer mod folder end with .dll. Is there any way to get around this error?

geez ok
1. dont install any SDK or whatever (that never is needed)
2. to install Crossfire use a clean installation -> no patches... no SDK... no anything else
3. use the freelancer mod manager 1.31 -> no flmm 1.3... no flmm 1.4beta... no anything else
4. enjoy the mod

I think its just a problem with my copy of freelancer. I tried your steps on my and on a different pc and it gives me the same errors. Thanks for the help anyways.

codehaven,
Does your particular Freelancer disk have the Unbisoft Logo on it anywhere?
If it does, that could be the problem.
