Invisible Ship...

Okay, I know this may seem like a common one... But... It isn't.

I've had quite a bit of help in making the ship... Which I finally got to work and all... But there is one slight problem. The ship is the correct size, the weapons where they are supposed to be and seen... But the ship is invisible.

I have messed with the LOD and that didn't do anything. I messed with the Textures, that didn't do anything... I've tried a few other things that didn't do the slightest sign of anything.

So, any ideas of why my sihp is still invisible or how to fix it?

Twice in a week, this problem is spreading.

Your CMP has material assignments coded in to it, they have to match with the material names in the MAT, if they don't match you get an invisible ship. If you built it in a program other than MS3D then the importing into MS3D might have screwed up you material assignments, check in milkshapes 3D window that your model is actually textured before you export to CMP & MAT.

*EDIT*
It could also be a case of bad textures, if you have Hardcmp then open your CMP with it, if your MAT is in the same folder or 1 up from the CMP then Hardcmp will find it and apply it. If you see your model with it's textures then you know your textures are bad (hardcmp isn't as fussy as FL), however if you see a dark brown almost black object in the shape of your ship then it's the material assignments that are screwed.

have you changed the texture size like i told you?

Post Wed Oct 18, 2006 7:02 pm

Op I believe I've messed with the texture size. I'll go over it again.

If there textures show up in HardCMP then they are bad?

How do I know if they are good then?

that it does show up in hardcmp does mean nothing for FL

Have you tried FLRadius? That might help

@ Shaostoul I'll do the same for you as I've done for Cheese on Toast, mail me your CMP, MAT, MS3D and textures and I'll mail the fixed versions back to you, the MS3D and textures are incase the CMP & MAT are screwed and can't be fixed.

Addy is in my profile.

@ Gibbon, if he can see the weapons then the the ship doesn't need resized, it just needs a skin applied to it.

Also, make sure your graphics acceleration is turned on full, or else your textures might not appear.

Could this be a LOD range problem? For fighters the LOD is usually set to 0, 2000. if you don't know what this means, look at the bottom part of a shiparch entry (I think it's there).

I know what LOD is... I've done what I know... LOD, Textures, CMP, MAT... All that... right now I'm fighting with a problem I had when I first when at making ships and forgot how to get past it... so, I've been fiddling with that... I go to equipment room after buying ship and game crashes. Oh and the whole no equipment again... No guns/turrets/thruster/shield slots

Seeing that you haven't sent me anything I 'll take that as not wanting any help. So I'll give some advice instead, don't bother trying to make ships, learn to code the game first. Noobs that try to learn to do both usually end up very frustrated when nothing works and end up quiting. If you just want to make models then join a modding team and let thier coders add your ships into the game.

Do you know if the tga's are compressed or uncompressed? When you made the ship in milkshape, did you name the groups with unique names? Group1 is not good enough in should be totally unique.

trin - add me to msn (u should know the addy)

@ Bejaymac - Sorry, I've been fiddling with it trying things that have been suggested, when I can't I'll send you the MAT, MS3D, CMP, Tga's and whatever is needed...

@ Mace_166 - The groups are the required names according to the tutorial I've read and followed. The textures were saved as Tga right out of Corel Paint Shop Pro X. So, I don't believe they are compressed. The groups are for example Hp/Revolute/HpWeapon01 or Hp/Fixed/HpMount

@ OP - Ya, I'll add you in a minute of posting this.

ALLLLRIGHTY... Now it crashes as soon as I go to the shipyard to buy the ship... I've ran into this before... Any suggestions at the problem so I may not have to go through trial and error?

Post Wed Oct 25, 2006 1:47 am

Okay... I've made it work as it once was before... The ship is still invisible... IT IS NOT A LOD PROBLEM... I've changed it, I've fiddled with it, I've gone from (-1000 to 1000), (-1000 to 50000) So, it's not the LOD crap.

So, anyone else care to tell me the problem? I've gone through and made from the custom MAT which the custom MAT the game works and does not crash. When I use the MAT exporter on MS3D it DOES crash... So... The custom one is fine... Anyone else... maybe someone that can explain the problem in depth?

If you absolutily give up on trying to help me with the information I give you... I can send you the "SDK" .ini's WITH my ships stats in it... The stats are in the Goods and the ShipArch and the MarketShips. They've been checked and over checked following ALL tutorials I've come across.

I would love to find someone that ACTUALLY can help me get past this point I've gotten to for a SECOND time... This is very frustrating, because everyone says the same stuff... "It's the LOD" or "It's the MAT" most often is what it comes to. It's not those as far as I can tell unless the game isn't crashing, because the LOD or MAT is bad... Which would make no sense.

Thanks for the help in advanced...
