Hi There one and all

I am new to the forum experience but I have read tons of info so far. I have been playing Freelancer a short time but it has become my favorite. I have played the single and multi version. Both are excellent. Sorry, preaching to the choir.
Look forward to playing against and with those who post here.
I have read some mentioning about "mods", and some of the multiplayer sites state no mods. I guess I am just curious. What are they, and why are they? If this question has been addressed, please point me in the direction of the answer.
Thank you for listening to my ramblings, and thanks ro providing such an informative web site.

Mods or Modifications, are things that are changed or added to the game. Better stats on the ships and weps or new ship added, new planets and even new music added. They very a lot. As you noted, some multi player sites don't use mods and are refered to as "Vannilla" servers as they play just the plain game. Others have Tie Universe with all star wars ships or even to other systems added. Go to the main page, left side scroll down till you get to the "Download" area and click on it. there are many to look at and choose from. Click on one and it will open an area that tells a bit about that mod and gives some screen shots of what they contain. As allways -

Welcome to TLR, Enjoy

Thanks for the reply. I have done a little more reading and searching. I looked at the xml toolbox mod site. I gained volumes of information and understanding. Right now, or until I feel that I am bored with the game in its current distillation, I think I will play it without mods. I have always enjoyed the game that allow for a "free" feel to them, ie Mech Commander 2, that have a set story yet you can improvise to complete the mission. I know that I will want to get better weapons, ships and have more adventures as I play the game more and I feel then I will probably look to mods to do this. I basically want to play all the way through the sp and then build some time in "vanilla" MP before jumping into modded play.
I am not putting anyone or thin down, just a personnal preference.
Hope to meet you on the flight line some day.
