Pretty Planet Project

This is for Arghs various projects. You can ask questions and give some feedback on projects such as the XML Toolkit.

to edit to opacity use UTF editor; find your material library and edit the Oc node in floating-point mode. 1.0/1.0 = 100%opaque 0.1/1.0 = 10%opaque

to add a general glow to the texture add an Ec node to the material entry - 1.0/1.0 = max brightness

also, you'll need to change the type from DcDtOcOt to DcDtEcEtOcOt to use both these properties together

(hum- i suppose its time to get my materials-tutorial together and post it)

man, it looks awsome

the last problem remaining ( i want to work out other stuff myself, only sayting this cuz it looks liek a bug) is that i cant resize anything. i resize the planet, and it disapears, why cant i resize? (i use the resizeing program)

i resize by 2, it disapears, by 100 it disapears

probably because you're inside of it, at that scale and the same position

pfft

already thought of that man, but even when i scale it by, say 2, the smallest amount and itll disapear. im not stupid

well i tend to judge the world by my own experience (probably my worst flaw) and i did that very thing the other day when i was scaling a .sph file - lol

not sure what your scaling issue is, but check the solar radius in solararch and also the LODs just in case, they should be 500,000 wateversmajigits

i put the speed mod on and flew up to see if i WAS in it. i flew 100k away from manhatan and still no planet. it must have somehting to do with lod ranges but whatever i change it to wont work gahhh this is anoying

Since we're on the subject of "Pretty Planets" ...
I've been considering making a "Nomad Planet" using the 3 nomad texture files.
Is this possible?
This is what I'm thinking of trying to do.
Renaming a .sph file then referencing the nomad_fx.txm to the layers.
Would this be the way to do it?

I started working on this yesterday, but lost track of what I was doing.
(that's what I get when I don't make notes and have CRS disease)

Here's my latest piece of work (Modelling done by CheeseOnToast). We've tried experimenting with multiple objects and stars this time, trying to give an... uncommon look. The planet's core is another object which spins independently from the surface. All the cliffs are also separate objects. The glow is done by a star which shows up behind the planet. I've tried making the core glow using both stars and lights, but stars do not hide the cliffs so you see through the planet, and lights eventually overlap the whole mesh, completely messing the effect. Any idea on how to make the core glow?

Heres what happens when you make really cool things happen with sph files!

I do have this working but i found this rather funny when it happened ^^
