AVG anti-virus

For some months now, I've been using AVG free anti virus on my computer with great success. It automatically updates daily, which has been all fine and good, until now. Starting a day or two ago, it's begun to require me to restart the computer after every definition update. Is there something wrong here? Perhaps has the 'free' part begun to expire. I haven't had a lot of time to investigate this fully, so I'm submitting it to the geniouses here at TLR! Thanks!

not really anything wrong, it's just that increasingly rather than just updating the virus signatures as always used to be the case, in order to respond to new threats, the engines are being updated in almost all AV/Security products, and of course running on Windows, this invariably requires a restart. yes it's inconvenient, but not as inconvenient as a knackered computer.

Download their latest version - they released a new one, which is "vista" compliant or something, so it'll work on new platforms. If you haven't already updated, the current one goes out in January.

None of my updates have required a restart though

I've only had to do a restart on a very few occasions.
