Widescreen Gaming

Hey people. I was just wondering about everybody's opinions of widescreen gaming with 19"+ LCD monitors. I think that, in theory, it is an excellent idea, however few games support it and you need substantial graphics processing power in order to render a resolution like 1680x1050 in decent quality. In addition, some users complain of "stretching" when playing games in resolutions such as 1280x1024, etc. The final potential problem would be the presentation of "legacy" games. How would "Monkey Island" and other old games look in full-screen on a widescreen LCD? Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

In regards to specific monitors, the 24" BenQ FP241W LCD monitor is a beast, and how can you go wrong with a monitor that supports 1080p? But at $1500 AUD it is an expensive proposition, and I am not sure that I can justify it. Maybe when I pick up Typhon Mark II ...

until the majority of games are by deafult widescreen, I shan't be worrying about it.

'tis true. My good old CRT still does a good job, but the slim profile of a nice LCD would certainly give me more desk space.
