Use cruise as soon as the race starts, hit alt w to enter cruise (or whatever it is to engage cruise engine).

If it's not SP and you're trying to get into Mactan again, you'll need to get friendly. Shoot liberty guys, or bounty hunters...
Liberty Rogues and Lane Hackers are friends, so getting friendly with liberty rogues helps I think bribes may exist on the junkers base "Rochester" in the New York system for either lane hackers or rogues. If you can't find one, launch and redock and try the bar again

If it's in Single player - the systems close after you go through them, so you can't really go back there - only onwards. Don't worry, once the storyline is done, you can go everywhere

@Chips: Really? I never realised that, not sarcasim by the way. I have not played SP in ages but last time I did it in a ship bought in NY even though the story line had brought me as far as Leeds and I had turned back to get it.

@n00b: Everything else Chips says is 100%. If you are attempting to land on a base and it shoots at you, in all probability you need to get friendly with the owners by either killing their enemy or searching for the right bribe.

I like the killing myself.

Well, for the race part...
(I switch to cockpit view before I land on the Hood, before meeting Hovis)
I'd switch to a lighter ship for it's ability to turn tighter than a freighter. That Britonian Heavy Fighter for sale there works fine.
Somewhere along the race course, Hovis will make a mistake. Just keep your trajectory "inside" of Hovis. Always take the shortest path between gates. (Just make sure you are in Freeflight mode and make sure you go into cruise at the start of the race)

Now for Mactan and Willard Research Station...
What you're telling me is that you've got a bounty on your head.
This means all of Liberty (including their corporations and allies) have the "hots" for you.
Although the Lane Hackers might be friendly (or neutral) with you, their allies (The Outcasts) still don't like you. So when you get close to Mactan and there are Outcasts nearby, Mactan will side up with the Outcasts and shoot at you.
Your jouney will eventually take you to Kyushu which by that time, the Outcasts and Bounty Hunters will be neutral with you . But, you still have to beat Hovis to get to that point in the story (this is partly because you have to fight the "infected" Reinlanders to escape the Britonian Systems)
Between that time and before you meet Lt. Ozu, you'll be pretty free to jouney just about anywhere. (After you take a mission with Lt. Ozu of the Blood Dragons, you're reputation with just about all of Sirius will be crap..but that won't last forever)

thanks, i switched to a crusader and won the race.. i never knew about his mistake cuz he kept finishing the race b4 i got to his mistake point..so thanks for that
now im with the dragons and all those rebel rascals ... switched to a baracuda and now to the anubis.. i think i made an enemy of the lane hackers cuz most of the bar missions made me kill outcasts and corsairs and etc... so that made lane hackers hate me..... all i wanna do is buy the dromotary or wtv its called.. has the biggest cargo hold.. then make enuf money to buy my own cute lil battleship.......

ya i know u cant do that.. but.. a boy can dream cant he ????? cant he ?

btw.. how do i switch to cockpit view ??

Post Tue Jul 24, 2007 5:18 pm

1 more question... did i just pay 1000$ for the anubis ???? that was cheap...

sorry the real question is...
i notice u can only keep 1 ship in freelancer..
can u keep more than 1 ship in starlancer or darstar one ??? cuz i wanna have 2 ships.. 1 fighter 1 freighter..more convenient

Post Tue Jul 24, 2007 6:31 pm

1. regardless of how many ships you might be able to own...you can still only fly one at a time.
You could create your own little hideaway and keep your favorite ships and equipment there. But, You still have to "purchase" a different ship.

2. If you want the Dromedary..here's a hint...
Take all your frustrations out on the Corsairs...
afterwards, the only faction who will hate you worse than the Corsairs will be the Hogosha.
Soon enough, you'll be able to land on Mactan and buy your Dromedary.

so how do i get a hideaway ???? now im interested...

corsairs... i can do that... i was gonna attack xeno's but corsairs is fine too.. thanks for the tip, but im real interestd in the hideaway

Post Thu Jul 26, 2007 1:42 am

Creating a hideaway...I think that's modding. Do you mean creating a base in some quiet spot that sells all the ships and all the guns? Because I'm afraid you can't do that in vanilla Freelancer.

Post Thu Jul 26, 2007 11:37 am

alright then, where do i find this mod ??? i want to have multiple ships

Post Thu Jul 26, 2007 12:31 pm

No no no you don't understand me. The mod does not as far as I know exist, you'd have to create it yourself. It would sell every ship in the game, possibly at low prices.

Post Thu Jul 26, 2007 1:30 pm

Each base is limited to sell 3 ships ONLY.PERIOD.

Also you can only OWN one ship at a time (buy and sell) you cannot own more than one ship

Post Thu Jul 26, 2007 1:32 pm

The best you could do for your own little "hideaway" is sell three ships at most. In this case, your 3 favorite ships. You can also stock you little base with all those weapons that your ship can possibly mount. Which by the way, you still have to purchase unless they're just automatically switched over from one ship to the other when you make the purchase.
So, yes...this means you would have to "mod" your game.
I created my own little "Rankor Station" nicely hidden away in a large asteroid field. It sells my three favorite ships and all the equipment that can be mounted on them. As well, it sells and buys commodities at a fair profit margin. I've also added some humor in the rumors there.
The programs I used to do this are primarily:
FL SDK & FL Explorer
*both are the latest versions.

Note: Shooting Xenos will adjust your reputation with most of their enemies. However, the IMG and Zoners are not their enemies. So, if you shoot too many Xenos, I'm sorry to say that it will adversely affect your reputation with the Zoners and IMG.

To switch to "cockpit" view:
press: Cntrl V

I can't answer you on the other two games. Others here are far more qualified to answer that question for you.
