a pirate''s life...

Hey all,
I know that as a newcomer i am asking a lot of questions....hehe...but some of you have been really helpful so far. This should be my last question for a while...so if anybody can help, that's great. If i hack a trade lane for example, and then try and
destroy any cargo ships that might have come through, isn't is possible to collect it's
cargo as loot....? or not? Did i miss the memo? Is it EVEN possible to "BE" a "Pirate"
in that way? OR is it just pretty much attack random civilain ships and loot them?
Also, where can i go and ACUTALLY do this without the cops tearing me to shreds...?

thanks in advance

Yes, you could disrupt trade lanes(via shooting them, not hacking them. The Lane Hackers' name can be misleading.) and blast cargo ships, which usually yield impressive loot.

And raiding civilian ships will force you to fight the local authorities, which in turn will put you in favor of the local criminals, who'll give you access to their bases, and thus their missions, weapons, and occasionally ships(as well as a place to save and repair, since legal bases will become off-limts). So there is quite a bit to do as a pirate in Freelancer.

Oh, and if you're having trouble fighting the police/military, get a better ship or upgrade your current one.

One question, how do you actually know if there is a cargo ship coming? So you know to shoot the trade lane then.

When playing Multiplayer alone, of course we won't know if theres' a freighter coming in or not. Somekind of throwing a dice of luck though... If you're lucky enough, they might come with lots of sweet leeewwwttssss..... ( ex: Gold, Luxury Foods, etc).

To be a good pirate, you need a friend (or friends). One act as a spotter and one as a lane disruptor. The spotter can tell you whether a freighter is coming or not ^^

Don't need to disrupt lanes at all necessarily. You can wait at the jump gate where you know they will be. If the law makes this tough try waiting on the other side of a JG in a system where the law is more scarce but the trade still passes.

If you want to move from the Jump Gate but stay in the system just move one gate lane down. You can scan pretty much see the main Jump Gate / Trade Lane beginning and know there is something comming while staying a little away from the action.
