Are all missions the same?

According to this review you get a diverse amount of missions:

"Where Do You Want to Fly?
A pool of over 300 missions (courier runs, convoy escorts, deep-space reconnaissance, 'insider trading', bounty hunts, and more) delivers a unique experience for every player, every time. "

I'm level 8 and so far the only mission I get are to kill this guy or blow up that base. Are there trade and escort missions as well?

Thank you.

P.S. Please don't get me wrong, I love the game.

Fraid it is just "kill them", with extra "kill this person in particular", or "beam in this from the person you kill and return to base" or "destroy this object that this person is carrying after killing them", or "so and so is building a base, destroy it".

That's about it.

I hope there is more variety in DS1. Am I allowed to talk about that game here? Sorry if not.

Darkstar One (even in the demo) has a vast number of different missions, including escort, courier, assasination, patrol, etc, with enough elements randomized to make it fun. DSO also has random events that happen while you're flying (i.e. a freighter will come under attack and ask for your assistance, etc).

J Dawg,

Is the AI in DS0 more intense? They seem to dog-fight more aggresively than FL. Or is that just an illusion?

Even on easy, I've had quite a bit of trouble fighting the DSO AI in large numbers. Granted I'm no ace, but I do find myself to be a fairly strong pilot. Perhaps some of my problem comes from the limited firepower availible in the demo.

Oh my.. I didn't like too much the "upgrade system" (it's original, and I appreciate it, but I prefer to buy new ships), but that variety it's good enough to me to give it a try. Oh yeah, attacked ships asking you for help.. I always wanted to saw it in freelancer, more when, after the first time I defended a trade convoy in a pirate ambush and them didn't said nothing to me
(If I would knew about the benefits of piracy/commerce, I probably had blown up that ungrateful pilots ¬¬

BTW, the mission part of the game it's probably the worst, little missions all of them very similar. Anyway, the rest of the game it's good enough to keep me playing over months and months and.. :p
