Best High-end Very Heavy Fighter?

So what, in your humble (or not so humble ) opinion is the best end-game VHF around? Is it the Titan, the Saber, or even the humble Eagle or Hammerhead?

I personally have only had a chance to play around with the Titan and the Eagle.

Eagle:
Decent amount of armour, packs some nasty firepower, pretty manuverable for something it's size.

Titan:
Hella lot of armour (about 50% more than an Eagle), lost of firepower, but handles like a freighter.

But what about a Saber? Does it handle more like a fighter than the Titan does? It only has a little bit less armour than a titan (about 2k), and a few less nanobots/shield batteries, but is it much faster?

This is really a question the moderators don't like to see, since too often it ends up with people flaming each other.

But actually the "best" VHF depends on how you like to fight. The Titan has the heaviest armour and the most shield bats. On the negative side, it is almost a gunboat rather than a fighter. It handles sluggishly compared to the other VHFs. Still, it can't be beaten for strength if you just like to overpower your enemies.

The Eagle handles much better and packs a powerful arsenal. To balance that, it has lighter armour and fewer bats.

The Sabre is much like the Eagle in handling, but carries an extra gun.

The Hammerhead is a Level 9 VHF, not a Level 10. But it does handle nicely and is strong enough to take on Level 10 VHFs. Would have been nice if it could use those Level 10 guns though.

My personal preference is for the Eagle, though the Sabre is only slightly behind that. Nevertheless, I don't mind flying the Titan. One thing I like better about the Eagle the cabin view. Sitting in a Titan is a bit like looking out of a bird cage.

If you like a challenge, stick with a Hammerhead and Level 7 shields. That gives you a real test. Instead of being simply the biggest baddest freelancer in the neighbourhood, you have to use skill. Go up against half a dozen Outcasts in Sabres in a Hammerhead and see how good you are. Takes some skill to beat them, but it's a fun match up.

So again, what is the best VHF? Who knows? Everyone will give you a different answer.

p.s. As to speed, all ships in the unmodded game fly at the same top speed. (Which makes the race with Hovis a bit stupid!) Some just seem faster because they handle so well, e.g. the Starflier and the Drake.

In my humble opinion, the Titan flies like a cow ().
I'd stick to the Eagle.

As Puke noted, this thread is being watched, no incendiaries.

By speed I meant acceleration, more than actual top speed. I realised that all ships have the same top speed, but they reach that speed at different rates (eg a Light Fighter will get there faster than a Freighter).

i like the Eagle, personally. It's really good agility and speed, which are my two favorite abilities.

The Sabre slots in rather nicely between the Titan and the Eagle. It has most of the maneuverability of the Eagle, with most of the armor of the Titan, and the swivelling turret mount is a nice bonus...

Which one is best, well, as has been said, it really depends on your fighting style. My favorite is the Titan due to the fact that I like a good stand up fight- but if Im going to be operating at length in asteroids, for example, I will generally use a Sabre for the maneuvering abilities. I dont use an Eagle very often, 'cause I seem to get vaporized in them a lot, lol!:I

Also, keep in mind that loadouts can make a major difference too- missles when you're facing a more maneuverable opponent can change the odds drastically in your favor as an example

i vote for the sabre. and if you are using the rebalance mod, (the last i have played was 3.20) go to new tokyo, spend a fortune buying the white star, equip it with anything you wish, fly it from backview (pilotview stinks in all hugeships) and u are invincible. seems as cheating, but i love the "one shot-one victim" posture... {i'm still a rookie, despite the 250 hours of flying }

It depends on if you want maneuverability, firepower, or armor. The Eagle turns the fastest of all of them, but has the least armor. The Sabre has the extra forward-firing turret and a medium amount of armor, but it is slower (It actually doesn't turn any faster than the Titan, but it has less mass so it can accelerate and strafe faster). And the Titan is the slowest of all 3, but has the most armor. Or if you want to show off your 1337 pwnage skillz, get a Defender with sunslayer torpedoes and stunpulses and humiliate people that way.
