New Trader looking for Information

This is my first post to this website.

I received Freelancer the beginning of last month for a birthday present. My wife says she is a FL widow I found the website Lancer's Reactor just a few days after I got the game and have been lurking around since. I have looked through the posts and the downloads and find it all great.

I love the game and spend every chance I get playing it. It reminds me of an old internet game caled Space Pirates. Of course that game was very simplistic compared with FL. I prefer trading to fighting. In SP I am at level 29 and am flying a Humpback. I bought a Drone right after the Story was done and soon traded it in for the Humpback. I have been using Steven Dolg-Java Cargo Computer to help with my trading. I don't know which version I have. I was on vacation this week and have done nothing but play FL. I have just started playing on a multiplayer server I found. The server is SIRIUS SECTOR 24/7 (IP 68.239.41.78). It seems to be a vanilla server. But few people are on it. If you want a vanilla server this might be the place to try. You find me under the name PathFinderFreightLines. I am still real new and still flying a fighter. I tried some other servers with server mods on them and I never could stay alive.

If other Traders/Merchant players have advice I would like to hear from you.
I am intersted in finding out:
If there is a server dedicated to traders.
If there are any mods for traders.
If there is any Trader Guilds on-line.
and, any thing else more experienced players would like to share.

Thanks for reading this and hope to hear from you.

nearly every clan on a server has trade ships this is to support the clan .i would suggest talking to different clans on different servers to get the most out of freelancer.there was a clan i saw once on a server that did just trade and not pvp but they employed a clan for protection from pirates .hope this helps you .

The Hamburg City Server is not dedicated to Traders only, but has certain features that make gameplay very interesting for traders (in fact, there are a lot of traders there) while the server still is sort of a vanilla server with optional mod adjustments.
The most interesting part for traders would be the escort feature.
You can group up with some fighters and ask them to escort you.
You need to type in "/convoy" and you are ready to go (escorts must type /escort playername). Once you reach your target base, escorts will receive a server-generated bonus based on the profit you made. This way it actually makes sense to be an escort -> more RP -> better gameplay
