How long do the police stay mad at me?

I blew up a cargo thingie in the vicinity of Manhattan, and they didn't like me much after that. The relationship bar in my pilot status window is still green, but every time I go to Manhatten, everybody tries to kill me. Is this permanent? Will they eventually forget exactly who that handsome fellow with the nice ship that blew up the polymer storage was?

If you shoot at police, shoot bad guys and you make up foir it. Shoot Police based items, bases, storage and so forth, they rememeber it for a long time. Some cases you can get friendly again with the faction, but not the base. I accidentally shot the xenos base, but stayed friendly with them. I cound not ever land at the base again.

look at which pirates the police in question are unfriendly with then go and hunt them pirates this should make you friendly again but it depends if it was multiplayer or single player .

Unfortunately,if everything is red in the area controlled by a faction but you're still green on the rep,you cannot dock/land on a base in that area that is red.Thats why there are never missions by a major base (i mean random missions btw)

It's single-player. So I can't ever land in Manhatten again?

If you really want to get back there, Use Ioncross char editer and change your location to it. However, when you go to leave, remeber they are hostile and will fire on you as you leave.

I'm sorry, I've gotta say it - this game sucks.

Apparantly, the only viable profession is taking jobs from bars. Piracy didn't work out - once you have the cargo, you can't sell it anywhere. You have to fire on police rings to disrupt traffic. I don't understand why, but from what you guys are saying, the police will permanently hate you even if you don't let the reputation bar get red.

After getting bored of bar missions, I tried mining in Silverton for a while. That was nice, except that I never actually got to mining. Apparantly it's a perpetual firefight in there, so you might as well just do the bar missions and get paid more for doing the same thing. I literally couldn't fly for ten seconds without running into bandits. Freelancer would be a lot more fun if you actually played a freelancer, and not just a bounty hunter doing the same missions over and over.

I haven't tried any of the mods yet, maybe they make the game playable.

If you want cargo to pick up, shoot them in the trade lanes in limited numbers, then go to a differnt sytems and do the same. Don't fire on the police. After you sell, shoots some rouges or other outlaws and you can off set some of the animosity you gather.

That's what I was doing when Manhattan got mad at me. I guess I shot a ring too close to Manhattan or something.

Either Kill Manhattens enimies for a while or just bribe them into liking you again

No, Oetox, it's not a faction thing. The police, navy, and other factions that hang out at Manhattan are fine with me. It's just Manhattan itself that's mad.

Why do they bother including the cargo bays at stations if you can't loot them without screwing up your game?

Fly down to the Naval Accadamy and save your game. Then load that same game back up and fly back to Mannhatten. Worked for me once.

Its the job that's never started that takes the longest to finish.
