Choosing Trent''s Path

I've read alot about being able to choose your path in Freelancer, but none of the guides I've found mention how to do it. Do you have to finish the SP missions before you can become a pirate, bounty hunter or other role? Are there any good guides to being a "bad guy" in Freelancer? Thanks!

You must finish the Story missions before really choosing your own path. But once you have finished, you are literally free to do whatever you want. You can take missions from any faction you like (assuming that you're friendly - if not you'll have to either work a bit or be rich to get them friendly).

The first step to being a bad guy is once you finish the story missions, get a Junkers bribe if you're hostile to the Junkers. Then, by visiting Junkers bases throughout Sirius, you'll be able to pick up bribes for most criminal factions. You can use arbiter.de for navigation purposes and to find the Junker bases.

The other way to become a bad guy is, of course, to kill the criminal factions' enemies. That means Police, MIlitaries, and Corporations. A good starting place is the set of Storage Depots outside Manhattan. Killing Storage Depots does wonders for your rep.

The term choose your own path is (from my point of veiw) incorrect. In truth you can only choose how to walk down the path put in front of you.

no matter what (exept for mods), you have to complete the storyline before becoming a pirate

I was refering to the fact you cant join a faction or anything like that. you will always be Freelancer alpha 1-1.

I do think you should at least be able to chose your call sign.

Zulu 20-12 would work fine.

Some people are like slinkies. They don't do anything, but you can't help but smile as they tumble down the stairs.

@Chupa-You know, the last end numbers mean what position your in while in formation (But youre always 1-1) Ex-DSE 1-3,you're cleared to dock-with 1-3 meaning 1 of 3

You can't pick a faction, sadly. You're the one and only Freelancer in Sirius. I know that people have been able to change your call sign. I know my friend was able to get himself called "Navy Alpha 1-1" after some extensive MODing. But that was it. No other factions.

Once the story is finished, how do you save your game to anything but the autosave?

Post Tue Aug 09, 2005 3:09 pm

During the game or after, you can always create a regular save. ESQ out to the options screen, and choose the save and create a name for it.

You mean the F1 menu? Esc doesn't bring up anything for me, and the F1 menu doesn't have a save option.

Post Tue Aug 09, 2005 3:51 pm

Your right it is F1. You have to be on a planet/base to save. The the menu is
Game paused
Resume Game
Save game
Load Game
Options
Quit to main menu

Ah, I see. I'd never tried it on a planet before. Since I was just going with the story missions anyway, I was just using the story saves.
