Cambridge system crash

In short - everytime I enter the Cambridge jump gate from New London, my PC crashes!!

It appears to occur towards the end of the transfer between systems... I think it is when the game tries to load the Cambridge system. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game a few times. I've even bought the game again and installed it from a new disk... but the same thing happens each time. It's especially a pain since I needed to go there as part of the story line.

Any ideas on how I can solve this would be welcomed.... thanks

The only thing I can think of is that you somehow have corrupted data. Download the Freelancer SDK and see if that solves your problem.

You could also try to deactivate 3D sound (see your options screen) as well. If no luck - then let us know.

Thanks guys.... tried both your suggestions... not sure which one was the right one... but just got into Cambridge. Tried it twice (just in case!!). Brilliant... love the game, especially the storyline so I'm glad I can rejoin it.

Thanks again.

The same thing happened to me a few hours ago. I was playing and my PC crashed, i reinstalled it, and retried. It worked fine, until i tried jumping to Cambridge.
My PC crashed, i tried it again, and my PC was forced to reboot again...
I got some weird errors, corrupted files (sysdata.xml and some .mdb file).
I removed those and retried, but the files just regenerated and made my PC crash again. I'm facing this problem for about a month now (it doesn't only occur at Cambridge, but chances are 75% bigger when docking at a jumpgate)...
I have made another account on my PC and installed Freelancer there, hopefully i'll be rid of those files there. I'm gonna try your tips though, it might just work (as it worked to you)..
I had to reïnstall twice now, I was around Cambridge when it started to act weird, that's when i reïnstalled for the first time. Then everything was fine, until I reached Cambridge again. I reïnstalled it again, and online play doesn't work (it crashes even when i'm flying randomly around).

Let's try that stuff, i really hope it works, cause Freelancer is my favorite game, and i've really gotten into it, it just sucks my PC crashes twice a day because of a stupid glitch

I had the same problem with my comp crashing at the same point. The worst part was I reinstalled my entire system about 3-4 times (I was getting crashes in a few other games as well). Seemed like no one could figure out what was wrong. Turned out I was missing drivers for my Nvidia chipset on the board. I had the latest drivers for my card but the chipset had its own set of drivers. Now no more crashes in Freelancer or any other game. So my advice is update absolutely every device driver you have if your comp is crashing.
