early general direction question

like it says really - i've just started the game and i'm allowing myself to be lead around the main story - when juni tells me to do some missions i do - when she tells me to come running i do

it's fairly early days (i've just travelled to the 'British' area of space and bought a light fighter) and i'm fairly happy not powergaming this - i've got the idea that i'll get to play around at the higher power end *after* the main story?

i'm just after some gentle non-specific encouragment along the lines of "you should be ok" or an equally vague warning like "if you don't do more side missions (or trading or . . .) *during* the main story you'll find yourself in serious trouble later" - that sort of thing . . .

You'll be ok. That's what I did the first time I played through.

I think your doing a great approach, but you may want to, rethink the "i come running" when juni calls a little make surre your comfortable with yor Character finances, especially with the $$ to buy nano's some missions are multi part and juni "calls" when u have the minimum req for the next lvl. I doubt you'll have too much prob anyway, you sound like your very familiar with the gaming exp and i think you'll have a lot of fun with lancer

On my first time through, yeah I just played it safe... Second time, I took a lot more risks and had a much better ship and equipment range than I had before, so unless you feel confident, go for the safe approach. Anyway, you don't have to go to the border and edge worlds at all, do you? Just keep getting better in the house systems until you think you're ready.

hmm - sounds like i could be ok but that the calls from Juni *aren't* on too tight a timer so i can afford to ignore them for a while - i might just do that in my next 'break' - i'm actually running a bit short of money (partly through combat incompetence i'm sure) so i might try to do something about that

thanks folks

yeah same with me. Powergaming in my view is no fun, which is probably why it takes me ages to get from one mission to another. I found that in Bretonia, It's in my view really fun to do everything in heavy fighter, just to play it safe. The Crusader's pretty much the only thing that's worthwile in Bretonia in my opinion, except for the Legionnaire, but you gotta seriously annoy some people before you can get that, so it's not too good for your future prospects. And it's a light fighter.

I tend to follow Juni's cute butt about

Following Juni's cute little butt is part of the fun of the game. :-)

There is, btw, a better fighter than the Crusader, not far from Bretonia. When you have enough dough, cruise on over to the Cortez system, land on Curacao and pick up a Barracuda. It's more manueverable than a Crusader and a better overall fighter.

I don't believe you can transit to Cortez, or have the peresquite level for purchasing a Barracuda in Bretonia. I reeccomend performing enough missions to purchase the optimal vessel (loot your weapons off criminals, especially the Gaia's Saviors and DUblin Dusters). WHen you arrive in Kusrai, the ENTIRE universe is unlocked. I've traveled to omicron gamma (while allied with the corsairs) and New Berlin while in Kusari (I did numerous missions form Daumann in the border worlds, so somehow RHeinland loved me even though I screwed their operations). I also accquired numerous Uber weapons, and numerous class 6 weapons. WHen I cocnluded the plot, my net worth, was in 100,00's or millions, and I was instantaneouly level 32!

I haven't found any Dublin dusters and the Gaia's Saviors don't seem that good. And you need to be Rank 13 to buy the Barracuda, While you're Rank 8 or 9 at the end of the Bretonia missions. Only when you get to Kusari can you get the Barracuda, which i laughed at then bought a Dragon. That's what I have now, and I'm broke.

the barracuda is not for new players only those with a few seasons of fighting under them because well it turns like a tub most of the time. For the new players you try a dragon or a drake both good ship and not THAT costly, I wopuld say the new players get the drakes because of their abilites to manuver realy good which comes in handy not to long after you go to the base in kusari space(sorry youll find out i dont want to give it away).

Yes I love to fly a tub . Would you like to fly my titan

I tried the Dragon after flying a Crusader and was unimpressed. I prefer the Bounty Hunter ships. Maybe it's the idea of flying around in a combat vessel with big fake insect wings plastered onto it. I appreciate the cultural connection, but I seriously doubt that any Japanese military engineer worht his afterburners is going to stick dragonfly wings on a combat vessel just to make it look more Japanese.

Hiya

I didnt want to start a new thread for this query and this was the nearest thread i could find

We got this game a few days ago (my nephew and i)
, and while i prefer the combat of independance war 2 / freespace 2 / starlancer
its been pretty good fun.

However, as soon as juni calls to say 'meet on planet xxx'
etc we have set off immediatley to meet her.

As a result we are usually strapped for cash, and struggle to upgrade shields/ships etc.

The question is, if we ignore her for a little while and do 3 or 4 bar missions, first..will it mess up the story mode at all?.

Thanks, El

Didn't with me,i tended to always do a few more missions....or blow some transports up

and like a phoenix i'll return from the ashes....with the help of the re-spawn key

Post Mon Jul 18, 2005 6:26 am

Thanks DS9 we will try that, besides the story is flying
along far too quickly and it would be nice to take a
longer time out to explore more, find some wrecks etc perhaps.
