Viewing character models with a 3D program?

Hello all.

I know you can import ships into Milkshape 3D, and you can change skins for the game, but is it possible to export the character models (with or without the other parts and props) into a 3D editor like Milkshape?

Better yet, is it possible to re-create the joint points on a body, so I can move it around and change the way it poses?

I don't really want to mod the game, just to be able to change skins and view them with some sort of editor, without going in and out of the game.

Basically, I was thinking of making a Freelancer comic strip, but I can't really draw too well. I figure, if I can view the model with skins and all, and if it were possible to change, for example, the hand and face gestures, I could just take screenshots of those have the art side of it done already.

short answer: no.

long answer: the characters are all made up of different models, and they cant be imported anyway. you can change this skin tho, and they will appear different. ie, crossfire and OP-R8R's juni. Blessed are the minds of teens like us.

theres a tut somewhere about skinning npcs but i can't find it

Aldebaran28's tutorial

OP-R8R what game was it for and any chance of a link to the article, I know 2 years is a long time so I'm not expecting to remember it.

i dont have the link anymore
all i remember is that it was just a small game... some kind of fan project and that there were tons of pics on that site showing how those dfm files were created

i didnt pay that much attention since there wasnt a download or a visible way to contact the author

Hmm, I was afraid of that.

Oh well, thanks for the replies, guys. And, if you can remember that program, definitely let us know
