Free Up Those Hardpoints...cmp files?

Man I know you guys try hard to help as best youy can..I have searched Hi and Lo for something that tells how to free up those unused hardpoints on various fighters but man I can't find what i am looking for anywhere. Have you seen how many threads there are in here..HOLY COW and I know,,I know in my heart that the answers to my Dumb Newbie Questions are in here somewhere. I've been playing FL off and on for over 4 years and I have got the .ini file editing down pat..lots of fun..I love the gun I boosted to make it a one shot and your dead thing..great for bounty hunter missions..LOL But I see on the Anubis (I have a Squadron of Fighters on Bedan Bedan..wish we could have more than one ship at a time...ANYWAY,) I see on the Anubis, Eagle and a few other fighters as well, unused hardpoints..I saw in one forum about using a HEX Hacker to modify the .cmp files and another guy that said you could even use Notepad to edit them as the hardpoints are in ASCII format..Scared here coz I don't want to have to install the game all over again..I downloaded the Hacker Hex editer program then used Notepad to find the Anubis..I think I found it..isn't it LI elite fighter 2?? AND I found the ASCII portion of the file..COOOOL..But Where Do I Go From There..PLEASE...I dont want to re-invent the wheel or have you guys repeat something that is already in here..JUST POINT ME TO THE RIGHT FORUM AND THREAD..I am so frustrated I want to cry..I hate seeing a grown man cry..And I just want to get one little explanation on where to write this stuff in..a format or example of what the .cmp file looks like before and after AND Whalaaa I will be happy haoppy happy and really really grateful... . I don't want to create any NEW hardpoints, just be able to use the ones that are already there but can't have guns/missiles/turrets or whatever mounted to them...I was close to the right answer and even posted a question in that Forum/Thread but I'll be dog gone if I can find the right place again and i hate that..LOL. I am 50 years old and a kid at heart and I just wanna have fun.. Peace toa all...Big Kev

hi there, welcome to TLR =)

what unused hardpoints are you talking about?well, regardless what you want to do is figure out which ship = which INI (text) entry in shiparch.ini and then find the appropriate section

ships are named by their house/region in short hand but some instances don't follow this rule
so, in shiparch.ini when you see a nickname it will have something like this in front:
co <-junker ships
pi <-corsair fighters
ku <-kusari
rh<-rheinland
bw <-borderworld (hessians/lane hackers/other factions with Stilleto/Sabre ships

and then for the ship type:
fighter <-fighter
elite <-heavy fighter
elite2 <-very heavy fighter
freighter <-freighter (duh )

of course, if you opened the file with hardcmp etc you obviously already know where it is and the filename, so search for that

then find this area:
hp_type = hp_fighter_gun_special_1, HpWeapon01, etc

then to classify(add) new hardpoints, just find the class you want and add HpWeapon#, HpMine# etc
hp_mine_dropper
hp_countermeasure_dropper
hp_fighter_shield_special_1
hp_thruster

etc

the classes are all specific restrictions - so if you make a gun point a lvl 5, and don't add it to levels 1-4 you will only be able to mount lvl 5 guns

Thanks Bunches..appreciate it...as for the unused hardpoints..Lets Take the Eagle for example..Above and behind the cockpit in the middle of fusaloge there is a hardpoint right in the center..Another in is on the Right side of the Upper Fin If you were referring to this as if sitting in the cockpit..If you are looking straight ahead at the fighter then it would be on the left at the base of the upper fin where it connects to the fusaloge..May spelled that wrong..You see those .. The Anubis has about four of these also in various places.. I believe you can mount turrets and or guns to them but as I understand it this is not accomplished by editing .ini files but the ASCII text portion of the ships .cmp files..Am i wrong and it's simply as simple as you stated here..Man I hope so..That would be too cool..Thenks for the reply..

i see the confusion arose from our vocabulary- the yellow and black stripey block thing son the ship, are just part of the model - the actual "hardpoint" that things snap together with is invisible in the game and can only be seen/edited with HardCMP and UTFedit (UTFedit is harder to use for moving/orienting hardpoints)

so you'll want HardCMP

once you get it you can find the names of those unused hardpoints and add them using the shiparch hardpoint-class info i gave you in the last post

Man, You have been a big help..I'll give it a shot...I am assuming that this same process is used for any ship(s) that have unused mounts!!

glad to know you're encouraged indeed if there are unused hardpoints on other ships and they aren't missing the invisible hardpoint component in the model(the separate hardpoint "node" in UTFedit, or red cube in HardCMP that tells freelancer where the hardpoints are, how they are oriented, and how much rotation they allow) the process would be the same -

if the model is missing this piece it can be added and saved with hardcmp, and then the {Shiparch} entry updated to include it.

Yep..it worked somehow..I have a gun sitting on top of my Anubis now it shows up as mount 2 ? But when I look in the Equipment Room on the planet/base etc the gun is not listed.. if I empty all the weapons it is still there! I can neither remove it or replace it.. Fortunately it's a DARK BLOSSOM which I like alot and it will have a permanent home I guess..LOL.. It got the lines from a thread in here that had some edit lines I copied and pasted to the shiparch file..In HardCMP the mount shows up but has only "Root" as the description?? Where all the others have HpWeaponxx, I could grab it and move it around but haven't figured out how to apply it as HpWeapon Point. BUT Anyway..The end result for whatever reason is that there is now a gun there and thats what I wanted. So I'm happy. NEW Subject..I don't know what it was that I was making so difficult about moving ships and Equip to be sold at bases or planets. I'll be darned if I din't look at this stuff all day yesterday to the point that I got a headache..Don't laugh..I already di at myself. I finally realized that the coe2_package and all the rest for that matter were different ships and that the numbers that followed were merely triggers that turned them on or off as being sold.. Yeh it's fuunny..but I finally saw that light and Now I know how to do a lot of things that before were greek to me..LOL
I know a ton of work has gone into this website and I think FL is the coolest game due to the infinite expandibility of it. Genius.. Reminds me of My all time Favorite Racing Sim from Papyrus Nascar Racing xx.. I think I have had more fun tinkering with files then playing the game.. I had to laugh when I set guns to 8000 Hull Damage and 15000 Energy Damage at blowing transports to bits with one shot..LMAO at that..Had to tone those guns down ya think??.. Anyway thanks for all your help.. I may need to call on ya again if I ever get the Gonads to actually creating my own ships, Weapons, etc from scratch but I am one of those guys that gets Paintshop Pro and never has the time to learn what all it can do. I am in a Rock Band (at 50) and spend most of my spare time writing music and playing drums and guitar...Don't laugh this old m**fer rocks.. We do a lot of Zeppelin and Hendrix like stuff and are working now on our Debut CD...BTW Go to Garageband.com and look us up..the band is "Kilgore Shaffer" Tnanks again..Til Later....Big Kev
