Increase trade lane speed?

Hi all,

Ive tried searching the forums but didnt find any answers to this question ... how is ist possible to increase the speed of trade lanes in a mod? Would be really helpful if someone had an answer to this. Thanks for your time,

dc

It's been covered, must just not have searched right hehe.

The answer to your question involves a little hex editing of the no-cd patched version of the freelancer.exe, if you don't have it I can't help you find it.

Redistributing this in a mod could get you in trouble with microsoft if they heard about it.

So I wouldn't go there if I was you, at least not in a public mod.

@ opwnageo
Sry but enough of this with the no redistributing nonsense regarding the exe file, stop giving out rubbish advice. Look around, nearly every mod has one, main reasons being version number changes and getting the various speeds to show up correctly. Also, as has been pointed out in some other threads, some budget versions of FL already ship with a nocd patched version of the exe file included so enough with the comments pleeeeeeeez!!!

I won't bother quoting a forum post on here gibbon, I'll just tell you what it said ...

It was made clear that legally the exe's aren't supposed to be touched, and TLR even were clamping down on talks about exe modifying, you want TLR to get shut down for distributing an illegal version of the game? Cos that's basically what would happen.

If it was allowed, you'd find lots of mods on here, and tutorials about how to do this stuff, I haven't noticed any so I'm going with the idea that exe hacking is a for fun things, not for public use.

Whether some budget versions of FL have no-cd (if they are sold with that then thats they're problem, not mine) it doesn't matter, just because someone else does something doesn't mean its right (I use driving as an example, just because someone doesn't indicate doesn't mean you shouldn't).

I'd appreciate a lack of telling me what to say please

I suggest you look in the download section then, and answer me why loads of mods have the modified exe...

I quote from my previous post...

"just because someone else does something doesn't mean its right (I use driving as an example, just because someone doesn't indicate doesn't mean you shouldn't)."

I don't know if you lot realise it or not but there are 3 versions of Freelancer.exe doing the rounds.

1} The standard exe that was released with M$'s version of FL.
2} The hacked NoCD version of "1"
3} The official NoCD version that everybody that has a budget released version of FL has.

Number 2 is still illegal, but number 3 was authorised by M$ to prevent anyone else getting a look at thier CD piracy protection software.

Every mod that contains an exe should have either version 2 or 3 in it (preferably 3) as none of the budget owners will be able to use a mod with the old exe because of the CD protection.

@ opwnageo, if you have problems with the legality of even changing the version number on the exe then why are you even modding FL. In reality all modding is illegal as we're altering someone elses property (check the EULA), however the industry allows us some freedom because we extend the life of thier games (giving them more sales).

I don't have problems with the legality of modding the EXE's, it's just I find the public distribution of such an exe wrong, as it leads to piracy. Whilst I agree that the most of the exe modding is done in floats and various values that only effect the stats and such in-game, the actual distribution of it, that number 2 exe, is what I'm not liking.

Can people use this "official" no-cd patch to get around copy protection then? What I also don't get is how having a no-cd version of an exe with a game qualifies as a budget version lol.

The game companies let us do this, as soon as we start stepping over the line do you think they are going to sit there and let it happen? Thats all I'm sayin'

Also I noticed in various threats TLR staff clamping down on exe modding threads, when I did my own search for tradelane speed etc, there is no tutorial for such a thing, hence why it seems so taboo. Maybe if someone would distribute this legal no-cd, with some tutorials, we wouldn't be having discussions like this.

Even if you have the no-cd EXE, you still need all the game files, etc. that run the game. without them, you just have a useless proggy. And can someone please post about the trade-lanes? Im curious too...
